19:4376119all it needs now is for bob to get his timpani out and vic to retrieve his trusty violin from the attic and we could have the best jam session since the travelling wilburys.

20:3076140i am trying not to picture that ian, mind you the thought of ray with his banjo, teeth sticking out belting out the lyric " if you could see what i can see when i'm cleaning windows" is not very appealling either.

Howard, I'll have to educate you about banjos, we players don't mention that bloke with his little ukelele in his hand. Mine's a long neck one by the way

21:5776154I think peoples imaginations at this point Ray are some what blured.
I have long thought of playing the Banjo, the most interesting of musical instruments. do you do lessons Ray?
Short or long neck will do me.

22:0876156That brings back a fun memory Howard. A few years ago I was playing in The Louis Armstrong on a Friday night with a bluegrass band (without makeup) and there were a load of youngsters in expecting the usual Friday night guitar stranglers.
We turned it up a couple of notches and ended up with them in a mosh pit to This Little Light of Mine (

22:1476158Ian, I have given lessons before and am just starting another newbie. It's a weird instrument to learn especially if you play guitar already (or are a real musician!). I'd happily give you or anyone else an intro session.
I had lessons in the 60s from a River Resident called Jack Forth, he was an old jazz band player and in his 80s then, anyone here been around long enough to remember him? The lesson always ended with a glass of home made wine, seems a habit with banjo players

22:2476162good on you Jeanette for putting something on.
Just got back from a walk round town am wondering how some pubs survive... The Nelson had 3 people in, The Flotilla about 10, The Albert and Eagle about the same, The Castle had 6 lads playing pool and that was it, only the Wetherspoons seemed vaguely busy

22:2876165I've no idea Jeanette, you tell me! At least it's a bit more organised than a Cowpats gig, usually get less than a day's notice with them.
I never played at The Westbury though knew Julian from his days at The Cricketers, heard rumours about those sessions.

i think the problem is that after closing time most town centres are unpleasant places to walk through on the way home.
friday and saturday nights are the worst.
it goes without saying that if jeanette or anyone else puts on entertainment they deserve success.
