""We as a Church find the throw-away mentality in our society concerning. How and whether to distribute the products in question would have to be examined," the priest said.
"But to throw away food that could be consumed without risk is equally bad as false labelling and cannot be a solution.""
Why not serve this food throughout the bureaucracies of the EU, and the respective Parliamentary canteens of all European Governments?
The food thus displaced should then go to the 'poor' of each country.

Whatever happens, it is morally wrong to throw food away, it should be labelled properly and given to those in need, or sold.

It could, I suppose, be sold. Then at least if there were any health ramifications the sufferer could act against the retailer.
Who is it that can be said to be in need of a Spag-Bol or a Lasagne?
What is really being thrown away here? Is it not the 'responsibility' that is the thing authorities are at pains to dump?
That any of this 'food' is fit for human consumption is a matter of opinion, no better way to back-up that opinion than for those of that opinion to consume the stuff themselves.
The core issue is not one of 'criminal gangs', but of some who insist on high profits dumping this demand onto those who merely wish to, or indeed must, turn a shilling.

horse meat should be on the menu,as an alternative.

The real issue in all this was the misleading of the public over what they were buying and the fraud involved by those producing the products not whether horse meat is good to eat or not.

Tom it seems, has the answer, why not expand on this and supply it to the House of Lords canteen/restaurant, not forgetting to remove their subsidy first. Let them pay the going rate for a good horse steak, damn good for you, What!

Having seen this in a local East European emporium, I think horsemeat might be the least of our problems.
