Every one is an individual, to try to engage with people as a group demeans them. I enjoy their company because I can learn something from them and teach them something about us. At Blakes we used to stock Polish bottled beers in order to make them feel at home.

Farnham won't know what's hit it...... Because we are going to Bushey on Xmas Day and Chiswick on boxing Day. The last time we didn't have to cook Xmas and feed zillions was 1977 so we are looking forward to a couple of days off with our kids doing the hard work. PS don't tell Jonathan Neame.

@ Carole and Ian, enjoy your French Christmas, when we had a house in Provence we loved it because the market was still open on Christmas morning, we could do the shopping on the way to 10am Mass and cook when we got home. Great!!

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Thank you Peter and we hope you and Kathryn have a lovely relaxing time. We are reaping the benefit of a bumper crop of mushrooms which our French friends gather in the forest [despite local bye-laws to the contrary

].
Thank you Jan - that is a charming e-card.
Merry Christmas to everyone.

We had a great Carols by Candlelight last night at the Baptist Chapel in Eythorne, very well attended. Now I'm really in festive mood. Tonight Eythorne Silver Band will be playing at The Crown in Eythorne from 2000 this evening.
Merry Christmas to all on the forum.

Two little snippets to remind us all what its about.Last night my daughter and I attended the Carol Service at River Methodist Church where we received a warm welecome .Many young children took part .I was delighted to see the great grand children of the late Bernard Parkinson reading lessons .He would have been so proud .
This morning walking from the local Post Office a car drew up and a lady threw her arms around me and gave me a warm hug .I had a job to recognise her as some months ago she was so ill.I was given a card and many thanks for all the help l had given the family in my role as a councilor .
What more can you ask a lady so grateful and little children at a church service .
