In rural communities all over east Kent the presence of these magnificent cats has been acknowledged for generations. I have not seen one myself but I know plenty of people who have. Some time after we took over the Yew Tree at Barfreston there were several sightings in the immediate vicinity of the village and we even commissioned an ale called the Beast of Barfreston.
Those who know the whereabouts of the leopards' dens keep that information to themselves for the sake of the animals, and rightly so.

i know of someone who moved to romney marsh and on his first visit to a rather remote pub he noticed an extremely large cat sleeping in front of the open fire.
when he enquired of the landlord he was told that it was called eric and came in on winter evenings, warmed himself up in front of the fire ate what was in the dogs bowl then left.
turned out to be a jaguar.
How marvellous!

the pony incident was hilarious, saw a video of the police trying to catch it.
bystanders were clutching their sides at its antics.
eventually it was taken down the station for questioning.

for those worried about big cats, this dwarf version is even more dangerous.
this was taken earlier when she heard a dog bark next door, straight on to my neighbours window sill setting out her stall.

i can proudly say that it as a rhea not an ostrich or emu.
thankfully ms bailes from that bastion of quality journalism the dover express tipped us all off.
Just to say that if anyone sees a black panther cub sitting in a window at Captain Webbs it is a stuffed toy I won at the Regatta - very lifelike. I was thrilled as I never win anything. He is called Spot.

Howard, I had a quick word with FiFi the rhea chasing chihuahua earlier today, she said if anyone spots a leopard around just give her a call and she'll be around to sort it out!

Are you sure it wasn't Deal's finest chanteuse, the lesser-spotted 'Glenda', wearing one of Max Miller's old full-length furs?
She's performed recently in the Market Square, so perhaps her tour of East Kent has extended to an impromptu gig up the Heights?
