14:5868967the travel itinerary of the pope on his forthcoming visit has been found in a pub.
would have been funnier though if it had been the one for the spiritual leader of the taleban, thay would have taken some explaining away.

16:3468972INTERESTING DEBATE ON BBC
Should we pay for the pope visit.
With falling numbers in christianity
and more humanists/atheists around
who knows
I have no strong feelings on this one
just thought I would air it

16:5068973He is a Head of State and should be afforded all the curtosies that any Head of State receives on a State visit. Religion is not an issue, speaking as an athiest.

17:2068974there lies the confusion, the archbishop of westminster stated yesterday that it was a state visit, however i have read elsewhere he is coming in as the holy father but not the head of the vatican state.
can any of our left handed members clarify?

17:5568977It would make sense if the church was covering the costs of any of his purely religious events (including security) and the rest of the visit was organised and financed as for a normal head of state visit. - maybe that's the case.
He's certainly getting down among the people if he's planning to visit a Birmingham pub

18:3368978He is the Head of State of the Vatican City. Full stop. If HMQ visited another country we would expect the full curtosy for a Head of State to be extended, despite her being the head of the Church of England.

18:4268979i think you a right ray, the pope is a very down to earth sort of pontiff.
only this morning i received a letter from him.
dear h
hope you are keeping well, will be visiting your country this week to meet the loyal subjugates(think he means subjects).
i gather there is some opposition to my visit, one man in particular is giving my backside a headache, name of rick jones.
suffice to say that if i encounter the infidel i will feel compelled to hang one on him.
sorry but i will not be stopping off in the clarendon area this time, last time i did this i returned to the popemobile to find it on a pile of bricks.
assuring you of my best attention at all times,
the holy father

19:0968984Always something happening up The White Horse. I think his itinerary was written on the ceiling up there, but you`ll need confirmation from Jeanette.

Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

22:0169037Howard, the pope is actually head of state of the Vatican City, which is, aproximately, less then a square mile in dimension, and includes Saint Paul's Cathedral in Rome.
He claims to be the holy father, and if his visit is officially a pastoral visit, then he will be coming as one who claims to be the holy father, but he will still be coming as a head of state even then.
His other official titles are many: pontefix maximus, the successor to Saint Peter, Vicar of Christ on Earth, unailable, and possibly one or two others.
I personally believe in Britannia our Empress, the Fair Lady, Who has the Light-tower Church overlooking Dover, the Sea and the Garden (of England).
She believes in God the Holy Father and in Jesus Christ, so by believeing in Her I can't go wrong as far as Religion is concerned.
Hence, I won't be trotting off to see the pope!

22:0969044Howard, I think if he got to read anything I might write for him to read, then he would read that the liber pontificalis was first written around the sixth century, and claims that Linus was the successor to Saint Peter as head of all Christianity. All popes claim this line of succession.
I claim that Saint Mark the Evangelist is the succesor to Saint Peter, followed by the Evangelists Matthew and Luke.
Hence, the pope's line of succession would come to an end, if he followed what I claim, and people would believe that the Evangelists are the successors to Saint Peter.

it seems that you are well read on the subject and i am not.
nevertheless the holy father and i will go for a few jars on his papal visits, takes the pressure off of him for a short while.
imagine what it is like for him having to live in an art gallery?
