But surprise surprise those without jobs were watching us from indoors lazy gits! Is this why they aren't working but would sooner sit on the sofa doing nought.

15:2585879Well I have just been out to Sandwich, caught the train on time, then walked around Sandwich and then to Woodnesborough and back to Sandwich then across the fields via public footpath to Worth to deliever our families Christmas cards. It was lovely to get out although the snow is deeper in Sandwich than here, worked up a real sweat, got back to Sandwich Station 2 mins before the train was due to find it was 30 mins late.
Us long distance walkers are a hardy lot.

If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

16:0385888i note the phrase "unlikely to be sued" !!!
they do cover themselves well.
a few of us spent an hour or so clearing the road enough for cars to get through, no way would any of us have considered doing the pavement.

16:5485908I get absolutely p* ed off keep hearing about sueing etc during periods of ice and snow. If I wish to clear my pavement I`ll do it, if I don`t I won`t. If someone wants to sue me either way, go ahead. It`s long, long overdue getting this ridiculous, pathetic, politically correct crap out in the open. Nobody seems sure as far as I can see as to how the law stands, (the laws an ass anyway, in urgent need of reform), otherwise all this discussion wouldn`t keep coming up. It`s an excuse for lazy gits not to get off their lazy arses and work for once! Well done Guzzler and everyone else who makes the effort.

16:5985911don't forget colin there are people walking around with "blame direct" on their mobile contacts, before they even hit the ground the claim has been made.
in my post 8, the snow clearing referred to sunday, once we finished it all came down again.

17:0585913I`m sure you`re right Howard, and how can you blame them when you hear or as I do, occasionally see on the shitbox, adverts crying out for work for these legal parasite`s. No win no fee. Maybe very little no wins would make it uneconomical to advertise these services. The legal people are no better than the claimant`s in these cases. Stinks!

17:2585923i have looked at that link again, it is not that helpful.
it says that we can clear pavements and public spaces(whatever they are), it doesn't mention roads.
it then says that we can not use salt from the gritter bins and suggest that we use household salt and sand.
how many people keep bags of sand in their house?
i think it is wiser to clear the road rather than the pavement because if cars lose control they can go up the pavement and hit a pedetrian, whereas if a pedestrian slips on the pavement there is not the danger of an out of control car.
in the two freezes we have had so far i have witnessed the aftermath of 6 collisions outside my house.

20:3985965I can understand your logic Howard, but if the road is snow and ice free I walk in it.
Talking of the sueing culture, I know someone who tripped on something in a supermarket (not Dover) and is now sueing them and is possibly going to sue the hospital for missing a possible injury. They contacted the law bods within 48hrs. They also seem to milk the DSS for all benefits going, enough said.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

20:5485969Does anyone know of a real case where someone has been sued for clearing pavements of ice and snow? Or is it all hearsay and urban myth? I've often wondered.

21:3685982I was reminded this evening ( by my mother ) of an annual event that used to happen in Hull in the 50s and 60s.
When brickies and other certain professions used to be laid off due to bad weather to able to claim their dole money they had to clear snow and ice from the town center.
How times have changed, we'll never see that one again. the worlds gone mad.
Two of us did a lot of snow clearing down our road too.
grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.
