jan
if children go awol the school normally rings the parents, i know that they ring round if children do not arrive at school in the first place.
in the case that we are talking about the parents do not get up early enough to see them into school at the right time.

to be fair to all howard;
the children you refer to are not english.
we have a number of english children who for whatever reason dont reach school.
now to get a little deeper into your viw howard.
the children in clarendon area who dont attend the school the schools find they dont have the financial imput, nor expertese to deal with the many nationalities should they all attend.
having said that i came across a secondary school that told other nationalities(only) that if they attended a weekly session at the schhol(just one meeting)they would be give a computer(govt funded) idea being the children/parents would find it easier to communicate?
of course there was a large turn out and each one was given a computer brand new!!!!!!!!!!!
before giving them out, one of the family members spoke with the assistant head and said you do realise you wont see most of the computers after today
to which she -replied, well it will hopefully help some of those that take them away.
