John and others contacted me to say that Kevin had sadly died at a young age.
For his background as some of you won't know him, kevin used to be a local football referee, he would go out every saturday morning, schools football, sunday morning, sunday afternoon, wednesday, on regular basis and other schol games whenever called, kevin was always available.
Kevin in his usual way was driving his car one day and was pulling out of a side road into a main road, the other driver flashed his lights which kevin took to lt him pull out, sadly it was a foreign driver who actually meant he was coming through, and kevin and the car hit head on.
Visiting kevin in the london hospital, kevin recalled how he sat in the car knowing something was seriously wrong not able to move his hands or body.
Kevin was in a wheelchair after this unable to move his hands, feet, body much after that and everyone gave kevin the best life that they could.
Kevin will be a sad loss to the football people, and to Dover
Rest in peace Kevin

Yes it will be a sad loss,Spud as everyone knew him had a tough life and was only able to move his head and his little fingers,my Mrs used to care for him. What struck me was the way he was always available to referee, even though he was probably not the best he was always there and prepared to do his best.
RIP Kevin

David,
yes it was.
Attended the funeral today very moving, lots of refs/friends/family,
moving speech/serman by the vicar who knew kevin since he was 14.
And the Dover and Deal primary schools(football) committee decided to name one of its cups the Kevin Edward trophy
he would have been so proud.

David;
he used to go out sat mornings with the schools
'sat afternoons kent league
sunday mornings local league
sunday afternoon youth league
and then wednesdays
sometimes travelling around all of kent to get from one game to another
if there was a game to be reffed kevin would always be happy to go
a great guy, not the best referee but totally committed and keen
his devotion showed at his funeral by the number of top officials who attended.
One thing that did surprize me was that the mercury had an article on kevin
but the express didnt do an article at all.
when you bear in mind kevin was a local celibrity in local football circles
and it was on the forum
rather strange they chose not to do an article on our kevin
rather sad I say.

Some sunday morning refs got all sorts of abuse, I remember one young lad being rude to Ginge and getting a real telling off from his own team mates. People were aware of his shortcomings and were very protective.
Unlike another ref, I think his name was Hamilton, after a game at River Rec he was thrown over the railings into the Dour by Crabble Mill

yes david most people, players, refs and all those in football were protective of our kevin.
as for the hamilton guy
iu ran a kids football team and came close to tipping a bucket of water over his head he was a clown, corrupt, fiddled, understand he went to prison
but certainly disappeared very quickly
would be nice to see a comment on my earlier posing on the express

Perhaps Kath is in Tuscany staking out the Camerons' holiday villa. Or perhaps she is on holiday herself?
