The only thing I can think of is maybe officers looked at what age kids were likely to be travelling on their own rather than with parents. I know a lot of under-11's get around but a little one of say 7 is not likely to be on their own on the bus (I would hope).

That's very true and I'd hope so to but there are times when little one's need to be travelling, even with their parents and they are charged full price. I have four children (although one is under 5 and therefore doesn't come into the arguement) and they have doctors appointments, dentist appointment, specialist appointments, opticians appointments etc and although my husband always tries to make the appointments on Saturdays or after peak hours it's not always possible and my children who are very obviously under 16 are made to pay full price. I don't see why that is?

19:205526The freedom passes are mainly for travelling to school and I guess this is why it is for 11 to 16s as primary kids would probably go with parents or live near by. It does seem a shame there is nothing for the younger ones though, maybe a weekend pass or something

I went down to the Market Sq for their handout and Yes primarily the pass is for school travel but it is also valid at the weekends and out of school hours with no restrictions upon the number of journeys being made. The only great shame is that by 7pm there are no buses to be had...to use it on..

Thanks for thinking of us its just a pity that I haven't got two friends to accompany Natascha and I to Waitrose..
Miss Rosebud is fine thanks and is anxious to get back to school on Wednesday..and who can blame her having been stuck for most of the summer with yours truly, madly and cheaply.

07:525567Wot we have to remember is that Barryw lot at county hall were only going to have this scheme in leafy Tunbridge Wells and canterbury, it took a lot of campaigning to get them to extend it to Dover.
So bits have been achieved, but its like ASDA its ok BUT DOVER DESERVES BETTER

07:595569I agree with Keith here .We were horrified when the trial was set up for leafy Tunbridge Wells and Canterbuty .So pleased after a lot of hard work Dover District got it .There are a lot of young people who travel from far and wide to go to Dover Schools.

Sawdust! pfffft There was 15 of us who lived in a shoebox on the side of the road. We had it tough. We used to 'ave to get up out of shoe box at twelve o'clock at night and lick road clean wit' tongue so those with a stage coach pass had a good journey. We had two bits of cold gravel for breakfast, worked twenty-four hours a day at mill for sixpence every four years, and when we got home our Dad would slice us in two wit' bread knife.
