Jobfair : Calling all Jobseekers!

*Tuesday 26th June 10.00-15.00 at Winter Gardens, Margate*
On Tuesday 26th June, Thanet's two MPs, Laura Sandys and Sir Roger Gale will host the area's first MPs' Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair at the Winter Gardens in Margate. The Minister of State for Employment, The Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP will be officially opening the event which will run from 10.00-15.00.
Laura said "Hundreds of jobs and apprenticeships in a wide variety of sectors will be on offer on the day. This is a fantastic opportunity for jobseekers to meet with lots of local employers all under one roof! We already have over 50 exhibitors confirmed ranging from small independent businesses right through to some of the biggest household names. It's going to be a one-stop shop with free workshops on offer providing useful tips on CV writing and interview skills. We'll also have start-up and apprentice advice for anyone thinking of pursuing a different route.
"It is not an easy time for jobseekers worldwide and I wanted to organise a jobs and apprenticeships fair to help get involved with the practicalities of bringing real job opportunities of all shapes and sizes to those looking for work at the moment. I am keen to do everything I can to help our local jobseekers at the same time as helping our local businesses recruit fresh talent."
And Roger adds: "We know that there are many people, of all ages, in Thanet who want to work or who want training or who want to change jobs. There are also, contrary to popular belief, many opportunities available as well and this fair is designed to bring the two together and to help to match would-be employers with would-be employees. While there are a number of agencies engaged in this process already experience shows that events of this kind really can make a difference and bring people together in a very positive way in a welcoming environment. So, if you are an employer looking for new staff or if you are a jobseeker looking for a break, come and join us".
The event which has been organised by Laura and Sir Roger has been kindly sponsored by Pfizer and Thanet Leisureforce. All stands have been made available free of charge to help support local businesses and organisations- the only condition being that they must have vacancies on offer.

Im wishing that it was a bit closer to home here but nevertheless there could be great opportunities as its not all that far away if you are work hungry.
There was an item in the local paper here from the owner of CMS Recruitment, a friend of mine I must state, she was saying that local people dont want to work..immigrants do. This is always controversial thinking and who can tell for sure, but now at least local people can go along and see if there is anything to suit by looking at the broad picture.

The lady is surely also a dear friend of BarryW as she too is convinced, but not that convincing, that what is good for her MUST be good for the country.
Alas, employment and unemployment issues are not in the purview of such folk, be the problems National or endemic.
If only more could be unveiled and proclaimed about local opportunities instead of bigging-up and advertising openings for the non-resident and excusing the drive for ever lower wages?
(many years ago) As a schoolchild I joined-in with the local potato harvest and witnessed many the swoop by the DHSS (or whatever it was called then) and their attempts to capture any locals who did this temporary work while on the Dole, yet where else were workers to be found?
Instead of any grown-up approach we now have the whole of Europe to call upon for cheap labour and many the agent ready to put a shine on things.

So what's stopping fancy box advertising the jobs they have in the Dover job shop ?
They could cut out the parasites and pay the wages direct, enabling them to pay more
Presumably this lady is creaming of £2 or £3 .per hour from every worker,
And maybe charging them an admin fee on top. (pay to get paid)?
Then maybe they could afforded to invest this extra money in to a pensions pot to elevate the benefit burden for these workers in old age - 14 June 2012 06:39177997Thats good info Harry. Laura said "With over 80 stands, whether you are interested in a career in tourism or marketing, retail or finance, we have something for everyone! For one day, The Winter Gardens will transform into Jobs 'R' Us; we have literally hundreds of jobs on offer- and all under one roof!
"While the response we've had so far has been overwhelmingly positive, we cannot ignore that unemployment is a real concern for us in Thanet; it was because of this that Roger and I first decided to organise this Jobs Fair. People have really been welcoming the idea and saying that they're pleased to see local representatives taking some practical action and doing something positive to tackle the problem. This is a project which has the capacity to transform lives.
"I have been encouraging our local businesses to take on an apprentice and last July, I even took on one myself. It's been a great year and both her and my team have all really benefited from her work in our office. With this in mind, I will also be at the fair with my own stand, hopefully helping another young person get their foot on that first rung of the career ladder."

sorry about the photo laura but thanks for informing the forum, i'm sure that many from dover district went along.
always seems to be jobs advertised in the care sector, not everyone's cup of tea though.
the feedback from people leaving the jobsfair was not that good though, most seemed disappointed.
