For the last couple of days there has been a chap hanging around the Folkestone Road near my turning holding a board proclaiming that Domino's do pizzas at £.3.99 and £.6.99. He was in a bus shelter and when a bus came along I asked whether he wanted it or was just taking a breather. He didn't understand so I am assuming he is one of the new Europeans that will do anything to earn a few bob.

He has been around for a couple of days in town and there was another up near Tesco yesterday. Personally you would have to pay me to eat a pizza from a chain outlet. I only eat pizzas which I have made with my own hands or bought from Il Rustico who make them even better than I do.

Brings to mind an experience a couple of years ago when we were coming back from the West Country. It was teeming down with rain and we were on the A303 near Thruxton. On the verge was a windswept, bedraggled gentleman of a certain age (i.e. about my age) waving a placard advertising a pub in Thruxton village. Within a few inches of speeding HGVs charging past, he was holding up his banner in defiance of the wind, rain and traffic. As it was noon-ish and I could feel a beer coming on, we pulled off, found the pub and had not only a beer but a really excellent lunch. Conversation with other customers revealed that they had all, without exception, pulled off because of this intrepid member of staff risking his life to promote the pub. Conversation with the landlord revealed the information that the man brought in over 90% of their lunchtime trade and did it for nothing because he had previously been the tenant of the other pub in the village and had been ousted by Enterprise Inns, losing his life savings in the process.

There are two different ones in town, the one at the bottom of my road has only the top of his face masked while the one outside "works" has a full face mask.
Rather a sad but common story about the chap and the pubco, the lure of running a pub sometimes takes precedence over being careful with ones money.

Oh Howard there are more than two out there. We saw one in Coombe Valley Road, Whitfield Avenue, Tescos roundabout, Cherry Tree Avenue, Whitfield roundabout, Frith Road to name a few. I wave to them and they wave back
I do feel sorry for them though, they must be frozen

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

The plot thickens there were 3 placards on the pavement against a wall in Priory Street earlier, in Poundland there were 2 spidermen doing their shopping. when I returned to Priory Street about half an hour later two youngsters had come along in civvies and went off to promote our favourite pizza, the younger one looked not much older than 12 but knew enough English to try and ponce a cigarette off of me.
Meanwhile I am told that there is a Facebook page set up by our younger brethren demanding a boycott of Domino's due to them exploiting these people byallegedly forcing them to work in the recent awful conditions for pay well below the minimum wage.

I doubt that figure is true, probably told to say that. We have 8 spidermen doing 8 hours a day all this week which adds up to some £.1500. How many pizzas would have to be sold from our one branch to claw back that sort of money?

My young son made me drive him around town a few weeks back looking for Spidermen! We spotted seven within less than half an hour.
