he has never shocked me, there was a joke by comedian jimmy carr last week that shocked many including me(honestly).
i was going to start a thread on the joke to see whether members thought it was justified as humour, even i couldn't bring myself to put it on here.

Does anybody actually think Clarkson was talking literally? No, of course not, he simply voiced his opposition to the strike in a colourful and forthright way. That is what he does. I like Clarkson because I like forthright and colourful people, Top Gear is the best programme in otherwise dire tv schedules, and yes I am even referring to repeats!
Those calling for him to be sacked and making a fuss really do need to get a life, plus a sense of humour as well as a sense of proportion. It is they who have made fools of themselves. Clarkson was just being Clarkson, it is what he does and he spoke for a lot of people too, not in the literal sense of course.

No he probably wasnt, but who knows for sure, probably not even he.
The man is an incredibly unfunny buffoon, but I would not try to stop him spouting his brand of nonsense as he like all of us is entitled to air his opinion provided it doesnt contravene the law

even better paul, there used to be a post in market square where pickpockets had their ear nailed to and they had the choice of suffering a bombardment from the masses or cutting their ear of and escape.
in vic's case we could make it his typing finger.

With the bulk of Clarkson's money coming out of the public purse via the BBC there is a certain amount of irony in his remarks.

Martin - Top Gear is one of the top earners for the BBC from overseas sales, I expect he generates far more for them than his BBC income.

Just goes to prove the left wing bias of the BBC.
I didn't find it offensive at all, he is just speaking his mind. People must develop a sense of humour. If we take what he says seriously, people will be thinking Richard little John has serious views next!

Listen you guys I had the misfortune to have watched John Prescott on the Daily politics earlier today.
I hear people complain about Clarkson and think why are there not more letters of complaint whenever that toad Prescott appears on our screens especially before the nine o clock watershed.
I can only thank God in heaven that the daily politics isn't screened on the giant telly in the market square. The commotion it would cause with the poor children out during dinner hour is too much to contemplate.
Actually I might just launch a complaint to the beeb now.
Dear BBC,
earlier today I had the misfortune to accidentally tune into one of your television channels and had a funny turn when the sight of the runner up for Britain's ugliest man, a Mr. John Prescott, was screened live...............

As I said earlier I find him desperate rather than funny, but each to his own - certainly would stand up for his right to spout complete drivel

DT1 - he is the exception that proves the point, that is why his programme is so glorious because of its total lack of any of the usual politically correct rubbish. I find it one of the most entertaining, funny and enjoyable programmes on TV and one that I can watch time and time again (seeing how poor tv is, I do just that thanks to Dave, the channel that is!)

just seen the clip, i must admit that i did have a chortle, completely tongue in cheek.
the problem lies with whoever decided he should be in this particular programme, they know what he is like.
for the record i do not watch "top gear" others do in large numbers and it does have strong overseas sales.

I'm sure it is popular. I find it painfully scripted.
A friend that worked for the BBC told me how the breakdowns were planned on these spurious 'challenges' and that was the final nail in the coffin for me.
I think the activities in Walford are more interesting, another great export.

It's another of those freedom of speech things
nearly everyone has said clarkson is a buffooon, i certainly wouldn't waste my time watching him, but it's a choice thing.
and yes his comments were probably not the best time to make such comments, but that was probably why the bbc got him on there.
wages of these so called stars paid for by us is questionable but they should not be the only ones picked off

But no one surely could have thought he was being serious ?
I like Clarkson for the reason that he isn't conformist/PC.

Alythough I have no time for clarkson, and welcome freedom of speech wherever it comes from, there has to be a line wher you say, well actually thats offensive.
on tv today a guy was saying that hes all for freedom of speech, but this type of view was held in south africa under white rule, but that maybe is taking it all a bit to far. but never the less with fame comes responsiblity and clarkson has none of that, but evn locally one of our own blues made unsavoury comments and it cost him, but we have to learn not to offend or where does it all end

What may be 'getting the goat', of many of his detractors is that what he said is seen as close to the intention of the Coalition.
Redundancy may be better viewed as death by a thousand cuts, but a very palpable form of death it certainly is.
And the rotting-on-the-vine of many thousands in Britain shall be a death played out in the face of their children.
It is the present governments clear intention to teach by rote that the best place for a swathe of productive employees is on the dole.
Their big-society is an ever growing stagnant pool. Fortunately the very nature of this pond shall allow it to support yachts various.
