Sue it all depends on whether you are a practicing Christian who is a regular church goer, not just for weddings or funerals .
I would guess for the majority it is simply a time for family and friends to meet up and enjoy themselves.

There was a time when the latter were called "four-wheeler" Christians, attending church to hatch, match and despatch.

I know it's a bit late to ask but does anybody know of someone who will be spending Christmas all on their own this year?
We've got a load of people coming round tomorrow and need to borrow some chairs ....

Merry Christmas to ALL forumites. Fingers crossed for a peaceful if not prosperous New Year.
Here at Marlinspike Hall Santa brought me everything I asked for AND a jar of pickled onions which I'm taking as a good omen for my new part time job as an 'intimacy coordinator' to a number of local dramatic groups.

I don't disagree with you (and my Mother held that there was a special place reserved in the 6th circle of Hell for whomsoever re-named 'Mothering Sunday' as 'Mothers' Day'). However, my cracker informs me that 'X' stands for Christ in Greek and lo, the term 'Xmas' was born. So, clearly an EU invention from which Brexit has freed us, etc etc.

I don't feel those having a celebration to bring the new year in.
But really with so many places getting extended licensed to sell alcohol till 3-4 am
Is it any wonder we have drunken brawls ?

I do not think it would be right to ask Keith to expand on who or what he likes to feel instead.
