Just for the record on here, anyone have any idea how many of these are left in Dover? And, are they still being replaced by those obnoxious, un-characteristic perspex models? England slowly being destroyed, see them
while you can.

Yes indeed there is Howard but the residents in Victoria Park had to fight long and hard to keep it as I remember, i think Im remembering that correctly, but Ed will know more about that one. I think we did have Ed's picture of it on display at one time, he may still have it about his person.
Sadly Colin the whole world, with the exception of yours truly, seems to have a mobile phone these days, so the takings from the callboxes would be low so a limited future seems to be on the cards.

Is there any hope of the latest technology being a mobile phone box?

the sad thing about the demise of the phone box is that when you go abroad travel agents advertising our country always have a picture of big ben, a routemaster bus, red pillar box and a traditonal phone box in their window.
people come here expecting to see them.
plus of course they had a double use late at night when caught short coming home from the pub.

Luckily you won't get Mr Wanstall near a computer and the internet, there is unsavoury stuff all over it and it is a bad thing !!
Been nice knowing you :)

This is the little gatehouse at Victoria Park with the red telephone box. I am told that the gatehouse is owned by a German lady who rents it out to another lady, that the rooms are tiny and there is a spiral staircase in the turret. Not aware of a campaign by residents to save the telephone box, believe that was all Graham Wanstall's good work. As Paul says, phone boxes were doomed with the advent of the mobile phone. Perhaps a mechanism could be devised to enable local residents to club together to sponsor their neighbourhood red telephone box.

Anyone notice the one in the 'Hotel' near the dock entrance, just to the left of the roundabout, must be quite a challenge making a call through all the vegetation growing through it!
I think most have been shipped abroad by now as conversation pieces, do remember a pic of one used as a shower cubicle in the USof A.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........
