...on the other hand, perhaps Italians are at long last getting the hang of politics, but in true Italian style there may have to be another election to make sure.

The only one thing is known for sure, is that the Italians are not going to accept austerity measures such as have been imposed on Greece and Spain.
Expect something BIG....

Looks like Italy will be leaving the euro, then. M5S have promised a referendum on that.
Most likely outcome will be another election in a few months, with M5S getting a larger proportion of vote.

Britain and Europe are not going to get involved in America's affairs, Brian.
But Italy seems poised to have a referendum on the euro, to leave it. It's part of M5S's manifesto.
Currently Italy has a hung parliament. No laws can be passed, unless parties with wildly differing agendas agreed to any new law.
A country like Italy with no chance of legislation will drag the share markets down. This will become something that will keep economists' minds worried. So expect a few changes soon to your beloved European Union.

i think the euro is in its death throes, contrary to some of the media here scepticism towards the currency and even the political union is not the province of "little englanders" but to all parts of the e.u. even those who are recipients of free money.

Rumour has it the Greek government doesn't trust the police and has called in Black Waters to supply mercenaries to protect the Greek government.
The Italian state will be very careful not to go the same way Greece has gone, so they won't impose the insane EU austerity measures which hit Greece and Spain, and Portugal.
Rumour also has it the pope applied to the Italian State for immunity before resigning, but was given the bums rush, and will be remaining permanently in the Vatican City, which is an independent state.
His former butler sits in a Vatican jail for "betraying the pope".
The Vatican City's public cash machines are also turned off, for non-compliance with EU anti-money laundering laws.
Expect some interesting developments as the Italian scenario evolves. Will the Swiss Guards put up a stand-off in the Vatican if a scene arises in Rome between Vatican and Italian state?

You can't get much more sinister than the Illuminati.

The Italians, the Greeks and others are trying to have their cake and eat it. Democracy in these countries is being tested to the limit.
Something will have to 'give', either an end to their democracy and right to self-determination which, ultimately will lead to revolution in these countries, or the insane Euro experiment must end. Whatever happens there is no easy way out and austerity in one way or other either by decoupling and devaluing or being centrally imposed by Berlin will persist.

Italy has got 8 times more gold reserves than Britain, Barry.
The Italians could introduce a gold-backed lira, and use it in circulation, while still keeping the euro, which they could phase out gradually and replace with more lire as time goes by.
Because gold reserves are not currently used to back the euro, it would work, as the gold is "vacant".
Italy's gold reserves amount to something like US$ 140 billion.
