Keith, Dover already has two carnevals, and other events do take place during the year.
You also have to remember that Dover receives many visitors in the from of school groups coming over from France and Holland.
We also have cruise ships stopping over, so nothig to complain about really.

This year especially we'll have different events most week-ends, from around Easter to September.
It's not events we're short of but support for the Town and initiatives and projects to move it forward. Also needed are initiatives to help support the busiensses so they move from surviving to thriving and change the face of Dover to a vibrant and alive Town.
See Mary Portas' report.

I think a forum New Year resolution should be to stop inferring Dover does nothing, we all know it is not perfect but it is not as down as we are led to believe.
Keith, why not promote the Tattoo event at the end of the month that John is trying to sell tickets for or does that not count. Stop knocking Dover and move to this Yorkshire village that you keep promoting if you think it is so brilliant.
Rant over must go to work.

Couldnt imagine Keefy living anywhere but Dover.

But I dont think he is knocking Dover, just trying to improve things. We all know we are a town of " to it and through it" as has been often said before. We need events that get people to stay over for a few days, it fills the hotels, guesthouses, restaurants...etc. I think the best event we ever did was the Rolls Royce Celebration on the seafront...this brought people ( large crowds ) in from far and wide, people with money and influence..and very nice it was too. They stayed here and spent here. We did mention before that a vintage car rally along the seafront would be a brilliant thing, twould attract big spenders.
I did mention this idea to Cllr D Hannent at the time. Big Dave is a keen vintage car lover and he did like the idea.

a vintage car rally would be ideal if properly promoted.
a few months back kent time warp had a great selection of cars in market square but it was not known in advance, most people in town do not go as far as market square.

There are quite a few things which are already in the melting pot for this year especially, and i know people are working hard to get everyone behind things.

Dover doesn't have problems with events, it is any sign of official assistance and coordination that is the major problem. It is quite difficult to schedule an big event when you have to go into it fairly blindly and do the best you can to find out if there are any clashes...
Been nice knowing you :)

Keith.
Let me assure you, anyone planning anything for this year,Dover/Deal, will already be working on it. Lots of hard work is done, by the same few people, who keep on battling when things are getting even harder.
What we are trying to do in Deal, is get together.
It does not matter what you are organising, if you get together to share the ideas, the funding, permission's, licencing, volunteer's etc, things will become easier.
They need backing, support and a positive attitude from everyone.

the district council have a pretty good events page but it is dependent on people or organisations telling them what they are doing.
the town councils events page started to improve but has now gone back to normal.

Keith if you would share with us the name of this Yorkshire village, perhaps we could learn some lessons from it?

It's Grassington, isn't it? In the Dales national park with huge numbers of affluent punters within 25 miles.
