I may be wrong but I think the point of the comment was that if a blind person is walking around with a pointed stick, there is so much litter around that they could not help picking some of it up, thus leaving less on the ground. Meaning you do not even need to see to amass the rubbish. It was not a particularly clever use of language, but I really do not see how it can be offensive. The most offensive thing I ever had said to me was by a midwife tutor who passed me on the stairs, and having never met me before siad "Do you know how fat you are?". Perhaps other forumites have been treated to a truly offensive remark?

would be hard to compete with that diana, the best insults aimed at me would be unsuitable for posting here.
back to the issue of the jokes, i hear some jokes on a regular basis that leave me mirth laden, however they would offend many so i do not post them here.
should someone in a public position not see that there is a time and a place for these things, they are clearly not fit for office.

I like them to have a sense of humour personally. it is the over sensitive who should take a hard long look at themselves but on the other hand complaints may well have other motivation, greed after compensation maybe, a grudge or political...

baz;
im all for the sense of humour bit, but if i was aware that saying something about a blind person whether in person or in general, and that he/she is offended i would think twice about making such comments.
I was on the KCC with mr parker for a number of years, and he was/is a very hard working cllr, but he realised his comments could have been seen as offensive and stood down
i think that should be the end of the story

I also want my councillor to have a sense of humour, more importantly they should know when and how to use that sense of humour.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

speaking of the llate great sir bernard does anyone remember his merry quip after president nixon got impeached?
he should not have been impeached they should have got teddy kennedy to give him a lift home.

Howard

I still like the classic one about President Nixon having a certain transplant & the transplant rejecting him
