courtesy of the true blue express.
Days before key local elections across the UK, more than 2,000 people were asked by pollsters Angus Reid whether they thought the Coalition was "in touch with the concerns of ordinary people". Eighty-two per cent branded the Government out-of-touch. Only 18 per cent thought they were in touch.
The scale of public anger should serve as a warning shot to a prime minister accused of high-handed leadership and losing grip on the Coalition's mission to pull Britain free of Labour's toxic debt legacy.
In the last month the Government has been rocked by scandals, bungles and bad headlines as the Budget bombed and Britain slipped into a double dip recession.
More than half of voters - 53 per cent - now say they don't trust Mr Cameron to run the country, putting him almost level with Labour leader Ed Miliband, at 51 per cent.

The title of this thread comes closest to hitting the nail upon the head.
What is wrong with Politics in Britain (let others sort themselves out) is that, "Politics IS Politicians"
What is right and what alone will salve all ills is the realisation that, "Politics IS People!"
The sole question that remains is, "People, are YOU Politics?"

but to get back to the heading;
all politicians need to re look at themselves in the hope of re engaging with those that vote for them or not as the case may be

Very true Keith, I doubt any top politician has come from a struggling family background.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

blimey geezer howard
i think all politicians at all levels need to remember they are there not for themselves but for the area, the country, and the population(not in that order)

Dennis Skinner is a good example.

Dennis is good for entertainment value, and stood by his beliefs, but outdated in todays society.
sadly its a dilema do you go down the road of dennis skinner in opposition for ever
unable to change things
or do you do like tony blair did and go for middle england vote crushing a lot of people on the way.
politics has lost its way

I very much doubt if everyone who lives on a South London council estate is struggling, some will have well paid jobs but may not want to move or buy at London prices.

Keith #3...RUBBISH!!
Howard #7. Alan somebody, used to be a postman, grew-up single mum, council estate. Given the Chancellorship in the closing stages of Labour Government and said he would need to study an economics primer.
Who (or what) but sheep would mill about hoping and praying for a worthy shepherd to come to their aid? On the other hand there are fish who change gender depending on the needs of the group. Why do we clamour about the gates of Eton and Oxbridge crying, "Save us, save us!" ?
[Johnson, I remember]

TOM;
You often come across as hostile (your post on post number 3)
yes the ex trade union leader for the U.C.W. was a lot of peoples choice but another who was born atr the wrong time, and probably didnt have it to go so far
just look at willy hague, a good politician(for a tory lol) but put up as leader and very badly advised.
some of his publicity at the time destroyed him.
but he was better than that, and one of the more credible politicians
although i may not share his politics

I have never seen Tom as hostile, merely articulate.

I, 'often'?
Forthright, perhaps. It may depend on how small you view one thing that another then takes on menacing proportions, but I have absolutely nothing to apologise for.
Your remarks in #3 are entirely counter to the thrust of what I wrote in #2. I merely returned the 'compliment'.
