Mongers. We have too many fast food and cafe outlets.Where can you spend your money ?Shopping area is too long .The idea of buses serving St James never got off the ground .

Let's hope it doesn't get squandered on a fancy water feature and some new benches!

£150,000, if I understand this article correctly and it is what Sue is referring to. It was on BBC news this morning but I can not find it on their web page.
I suspect that consultancy firms will be rubbing their hands as the majority of that relatively small amount of money that Dover will receive will go their way.

Probably Jan .You donot need consultants to tell us what we need. You are right there Reg.Families who go to see water features donot usually shop in town.Probably buy a drink or ice cream .Hardly going to buy fresh veg or fish .The new leisure facilitiy offers lots of things for children to do .We have the beach and for some learn to sail

Isn't a fishmonger in the Market Square likely to result in some fragrant bus journeys?
(Not my real name.)

No worse than body odour on a hot day with some needing two seats to sit down.

How judgemental
. The smelliest people I have ever had the misfortune to work with were thin, we had to walk behind them with air freshener or old perfume, people of all sizes and even ages can smell.
BTW Button, fish now tends to go into a plastic bag or posh white paper so no pong unlike the days when old newspaper was used.

Fresh fish hardly smells at all, as it ages and starts to turn the smell increase.

The key part of the announcement is surely:
The funding could be used by these areas to improve transport and access into town centres, convert empty retail units into new homes and workplaces, and invest in vital infrastructure.
In other words looking forward rather than back

Thanks Reginald for the link.
I do not think £150,000 will do much good when you think of the cost of improvements outlined by Ross.
I hate sounding so negative but when I think what LoveDover promised us all at their start and has so far achieved after all this time my doubts are not exactly surprising.

My understanding is the £150k is to develop proposals/plans and then the bulk of the £1bn is there for the 100 towns to bid for to realise their plans. If evenly split between the 100 towns it would be £10m each including the £150,000 already received. I would also expect the government to be looking for councils to match their funding from other sources.

Dover pilot
oh gawd no
sue I agree with Jan your comments were naughty on one section of our society.
St James is Ok but does it stop people going to other towns?
Does it compete with Ashford,Folkestone, Deal? not really
There are positives ,,,,,,,,?

I was not naughty,My point was some people take up,more than one seat. Its not funny when you sit next to someone who takes up more than one seat.Stop being so political corrrect.Read the posts before you comment .The post was about fish causing a problem if you travel on public transport. When did Jan travel on a bus last ?.Another red herring to detract from the original post re funding for improvements to dover. Its no wonder nothing gets done when people stray from the positive.

Seems to be a lot of people with sunstroke in this thread
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/1-billion-future-high-streets-fund-expanded-to-50-more-areas
"Dover Town Centre and Waterfront"? I don't think the waterfront needs any more money spent on it
Lets hope the money is spent wisely, but if it is by local politicians, then probably not. Maybe the thread should then be moved to the politics forum where I can ignore it?
