How does that work? The current visa arrangements entitle movement within the EU.

No, they don't. That'll be a schengen visa. We've never signed up to it.

Yes, indeed. British issued Visa's do not entitle travel across the EU.

Had a set to on social media earlier with someone who turned out be one of my Town Councillors. I explained why I voted leave and she kindly explained that I didn't understand!! How supercilious is that just typical of many politicians nowadays.

Well if she had just explained before Thursday 17 1/2 million of us would have understood, but then most of our councillors don't seem to understand a thing about the population they represent, so who is it that doesn't understand!

Apparently it is me that is thick Reg.
Howard Mcsweeney I don't think it was a big issue locally, people voted against the establishment.

Miriam Wood Well, that worked then. So what do they think they will get now? Farage type establishment (no more NHS from this ex public schoolboy?) Gove establishment? Johnson? He's fun isn't he? With his hair and all. Such a lad.
They are going to get higher food prices immediately. More austerity. No one in government caring to help those least able to help themselves. Long term, false promises on taking back control, fewer immigrants, NHS all starting to roll back. Those with any understanding who encouraged people to think this would help solve their problems should be ashamed.

Howard Mcsweeney The sickening of Labour, Tories and Lib Dems standing shoulder to shoulder over the referendum made clear who the establishment is to ordinary people. Incidentally Farage is not even an MP.

Miriam Wood Howard Mcsweeney not shoulder to shoulder. No sharing of a platform, but campaigning for 'remain' for different reasons. The complexity of the whole situation is evidently too much.
I am aware that Farage is in fact an MEP - the irony of that!
So what, we now move into a post-establishment world? As I say, people have been woefully misled and lied to.
I don't intend to continue this discussion any further. No point.

Ah the old 'because' argument, I haven't used that one since I was about 12! At least we know why we have all got it wrong.

It is rather unseemly for a councillor (I assume an elected rather than a co-opted) to argue like that on social media, strange this lady was not more vociferous prior to the vote. The remain lot tried to scare us into submission which the UK population have never liked.
Some of these remain supporters seem to have a touch of the sour grapes having lost, someone I know is childishly threatening to move abroad.

There were 4 seats up for grabs and 4 applicants Jan which suggests that we have not always got the best Town Councillors. I didn't even know she was my councillor until I was messaged, no surprise at is seems to be more secret than the masons.

My own view is that this is madness, we have made a terrible decision and once the dust settles and the consequences become clear, many will regret.
However, having said that, it is always mildly pleasing when the public get the wrong answer to that which the establishment is looking for.

On a point of order - everyone from the EU who is already here, stays here, right? That has never even been up for debate? So the only drop in EU citizens here will be those leaving, and not replaced? (assuming we do not voluntarily continue free movement in return for access to the trading bloc)

Neil - there is no suggestion (yet) that EU citizens who are living in the UK will lose their right to stay

Witnessed a polish couple in Dover today being approached by a an unsavoury group asking "Haven't you heard the news - what are you still doing in our country?"

There appears to have been numerous incidents like this being reported across the country today. Very wrong if true.

This is indeed very worrying. My fear is that all of the right wing loons, once they realise that nothing is going to actually change, become even more aggressive in their actions through some perceived notion of being let down. I genuinely think people expect to see fewer EU migrants and that of course isn't going to happen.

There has been a lot of reports of harassment already of EU citizens and many say they feel unwelcome here because of the vote. The lunatic fringe have totally misread the situation and as Neil says their is a danger of things getting out of control.

I see from today's developments we appear to be going down the EEA route. This won't help once people realise that this means that freedom of movement stays exactly the same as it always did. Boris already preparing the ground by saying that immigration wasn't the main concern. That said, even I have been shocked at how easily Boris can lie, without a care in the world - to the point I think he is genuinely delusional.

He's a politician Neil why are you surprised? Just like the vast majority of them, eEspecially the current front guard who have spent 6years lying to the country.

Boris is the prime example of a self centred politician and I dread the thought of him being the future Prime Minister.
