It was our wedding anniversary this last weekend. We were married at Christ Church in Folkestone Rd and that was demolished shortly after. Our reception and meal was held at The Brittania, now demolished, and our evening do was held at The Priory Hotel - anyone heard any rumours about extending the car park at the station?

I think you'll find there were quite a few, especially in your beloved Kentish orchards.

The Britannia was quite a decent pub years ago, I had a few nice meals there upstairs. I forget the name of the landlord now, he was well known in Dover. When it changed into a "theme" pub and they ripped out the carpets and went to wooden floors with sawdust it seemed to go down the nick.

We got engaged at The Britannia in 1973 - can still remember the asti spumante! We got married in the burnt out United Reformed Church in the High Street in 1975

Vic, you are thinking of the Jamieson family. I don't think that they had the Britannia. I knew the two boys Dave and Cliff. Dave passed away a couple of years ago at a young age really. Cliffy is still about and I see him occasionally

The Britannia, along with The Crypt, was the place to be in the '60s and '70s. Very smart. I think it had one of the town's first cocktail bars back in the day, along with The Salutation in Biggin Street.
I remember as a kid having a meal in the Britannia's upstairs restaurant with my family in the very early '70s; white starched tablecloths and high culinary and service standards, and a very nice liveried maitre d' called Pepe.
I remember eating Italian food for the first time there - cannelloni, since you're asking - and it was all impossibly exotic and pretty swish, with very high standards.
The Crypt was of the same calibre round the corner, and likewise the much-missed Ristorante Al Porto a few doors along Townwall Street.
How much Dover's lost in a such a short space of time.
The Brit, RIP: you were quite a catch in your day.
