When you thought it couldn't get any worse it's been revealed that immigrants from eastern Europe will soon be able to claim taxpayer-funded benefits totalling tens of millions of pounds a year thanks to European Union rules.

More than 100,000 newcomers from Poland, the Czech Republic and other former communist countries are to get the right to claim up to £250 a week because restrictions imposed when the EU's borders expanded are set to expire.
Tory MP Philip Hollobone said: "People across Britain will be outraged that this is being allowed to happen. I think it will strengthen the case for us to leave the EU altogether." Andrew Percy, another Tory backbencher, said: "This is why we need to look again at whether we should be a member of the EU. "We can't control our borders and we are incapable now of controlling who gets benefits."

Tens of thousands of migrants will overnight get the right to claim benefits including jobseekers' allowance, council tax benefit and housing benefit.

Restrictions imposed when eight former Soviet bloc countries joined the EU in 2004 are set to be lifted at the start of May.

The previous restrictions meant migrants from the eight countries were barred from claiming the three benefits unless they had worked here continuously for 12 months and as a result very few qualified.

I suspect that this will add fuel to stronger calls from Vic for the UK to leave the EU that's if he's aware of the above change in law.
