some very interesting points raised, certainly more "no fishing signs" are needed where it is prohibited.
i think darren is incorrect in his assertion that there are more fish in the dour than in the past.
long term residents tell me differently.
it is basically theft when fish are caught without a licence, as stated above the fees paid go towards the upkeep of the river.
eels are a different issue as they are not as visible as the trout so people are not aware of their demise.
yes some do go to restaurants, the cafe opposite the bus station, when under previous management, sent across a young bloke to catch trout from the bridge in broad daylight.

I quite often used to see the fish in the Morrisons area I have not noticed any sign of them so far this year.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

a way to go yet darren, the chap across the road to me has lived here for 80 years and i trust his judgement on fish numbers.
he used to poach them when he was a kid.

Why do I keep getting this picture of the Chief Inspector shouting out of his window and telling the angler to vacate the area

The place is teeming with fish down there, but I wonder if there are any signs down there saying "No Fishing".
You may have seen the various stories about the upsurge in metal thefts in recent times and the Police have made some very good arrests there, but the suggestion was made that it is a recession crime. When times are hard guys resort to desperate measures to get money. I wonder if we will see an increase in fishing due to the same hardships, I dont know..I take it they intend to eat the fish.
