Was actually visiting Jimbo yesterday who did not realise that this was 'out' in the public domain. (He hadn't even told Shirley in case it did not happen!)
Secretly I think he's really pleased that his work has been recognised - especially since so few, if any, of his 'fellow' councillors could not even be bothered to visit him when he was no longer 'important' and health issues have kept him at home for a while.
I told him his accepting the honour was absolutely dreadful. That I always turn such things down and that he'll be joining the bloody Masons next.
Secretly I think that I'm also quite pleased that his work has been recognised.
I think Jim did thirty nine years .
Whatever crime Jim did Sue, 39 years is a bit over the top in my view.

It is a great shame that last night's proceedings at Fort Whitfield were marred by the boorish behaviour of Gordon (Give us a safe seat - I've just lost another election) Cowan and a number of the 'usual suspects' (Labour).
Gordon had obviously ' come here to bury Caesar, not to praise him' which is a bloody difficult line to say when your mouth is full of sour grapes.
Apparently he had 'nothing personal about the recommendations' (Ha, bloody ha) but could not vote in favour as the present job spec for alderman would not cover all councillors.
This is a typical Labour 'if all can't have prizes none shall' attitude which has turned school sports into a series of caucus races and school speech day into a farce where some poor bugger mentally half-firing on one cylinder is given a certificate for 'Working towards tying his own shoelaces'.
Gordon's antics unfortunately left a bit of a nasty taste in the mouth.
To draw a parallel I am a staunch republican HOWEVER I do not make a point of refusing to stand for the national anthem as I recognise it as shared ritualised behaviour which is important for the cohesiveness of my society .
In a post religious society there are more than enough triggers for Durkheim's 'anomie' without me doing my bit to add to it. When I attend the Trafalgar Day Service this weekend I am taking part in a societal celebration of part shared history and part foundation myth i.e. we have descended from heroes such as this. I shall be singing the national anthem. Life is not always about me, me, me.
If it's fairly harmless and absurd but gives people a sense of 'belonging' I'm all for it, even down to Scottish Country Dancing!

Well that is a great shame Captain.Gordon had no need for that pure childish behaviour .That is the trouble everyone needs to be equal in Labours eyes. How many times do you hear the comment well she's from the leafy suburbs of River. When I was at St Radiginds the children thought I was posh as I spoke differently ,called me Mrs River.Well there is nothing wrong with trying to have standards.
My personal opinion the vote should have just gone tnrough. The reports have gone on for ages and a working group looked at the options.

Precisely Sue. The time to object was when the system was being set up.
Were Gordon and others merely to have quietly abstained then so be it.
The behaviour was totally unnecessary and rather 'bad form'.
It was neither the time nor the place for such behaviour.

Yes you abstain. What was interesting both the nominees were from different political persuasions so you could not say it's a Tory idea. The same with the Garden Party all squashed under Labour. They don't mind spending money on some half baked idea to keep their votes .

Just for the record nobody applied for the Labour candidacy at the last Aylesham by-election, Gordon was asked to step in.

DDC has been Tory run for 14 years Sue so any money spent on half baked ideas is not down to Labour.

Well Howard I know it has been Tory controlled for Fouteen years it you look around how some grants are spent and you would see what I mean.Jim Hood was old Labour he would have stepped in and prevented a. Public show of pettiness .Councillors have reports on change of policies ,just an arrogant display .I think Gordon and some of those lefties will find it hard work with the new Leader.

So lets put a little bit of meat on the bone as they say,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Bob Frost indicated Gordon alone was a spoiler.
When the facts are quite a number of cllrs abstained, although probably didn't have the bottle to say what Gordon said.
If the post is looking for wrong uns lol then the 2 UKIP cllrs voted against both nominations.
So realy it's once again an all about nothing posts.
But as usual other subjects get drawn in by some posters, such as Labour wanting everyoneto be equal, quite a strange view, not one iv witnessed, but never the less a view I suppose.
Then we have the lady who put the wearing of her multi number of hats before whats best for Dover a lot of money was wasted on them with little outcome.
Of course 1 from each party would be put up, that way support of both parties was hoped for.

Perhaps Bob and his groupies might take time to study what "credulous" means when we look at their achievements?
