    Plainly put, Vic, the Country can't afford it!
    But if you equalise the child benefit of a well-to-do family with an equivalent tax, they won't go into poverty because of it.
    These earners (£50-60,000 and above a year), are not the kind of people who will face home-eviction for failure to pay mortgage. They are not financially vulnerable.

    In a situation of economic crisis, as we are in now, there is no room for "live and let die" attitudes.
