  Gary - system restore wont work as under the instruction of the HP teccie I deleted the old drivers and downloaded new drivers from their website (twice). The problem is narrowed down to the HP software.
  
  ChrisK. Yes I am not complaining about the support despite having a problem find a phone number. But nearly 5 hours on the phone and still it does not work is just not good enough.
  
  This leads to a thought on the broader question.
  
  Are we too indulgent of computer software and hardware companies?
  
  If cars exhibited the same reliability as computers our roads would be awash with crashed cars and bodies!!! We dont tolerate substandard goods and services from companies unless they are technology companies. They seem to use the general public as their Beta testers launching sub-standard goods and they get away with it. Prehaps we should say enough is enough, if its not right it should not be released and if it released when its not up to scratch is then they should get sued.... Microsoft would soon go bust.
