Early evening and a thunderous roar. The earth shook..what was happening? ..then the answer ..they came into view from my left. Loads of them, between 200 or 300 strong. I had time to watch them for a while awestruck. I even had time to go fetch the camera and they were still rolling through. It was enough to gladden the heart of an ould biker I can tell you...
I guess by the insignia on their backs that they were Hells Angels but I didnt see it up close. Never have I seen so many at one go...they didnt go into the docks but rolled on up Jubilee Way. Where were they heading? My innards were revving in tandem. The thunderous throb of the Harley Davidson engines..fab.
They took over the length and breadth of the roadway, they werent going fast but nobody else was coming through...
Did anyone else see the spectacle go by about 6pm or so?
The pictures just show a small section of riders.

years gone by the hells angels used to ride into towns and pour fear into locals
in the past dover being one of the towns.
but that doesnt appear to happen much these days.
having said that recently in hythe area two gangs did fall out and a sussex gang came to the hythe area to sort out a kent gang member leaving what they thought was for dead, but he actually recovered.
so these gangs still exist and im sure(i have no proof) that they sort out any issues internally(if you get my drift lol)

The bikers are better known for their charity fundraising now, the hell raising days seem to have gone.
Paul, that is a strange one with the large wheels, in the top picture.

Yes Jan thats actually a trike. These trikes seem to be growing in number. Similar to the one as seen in the latest Billy Connolly TV programme, where dear oul Billy is riding the full legth of Route 66 on said trike...now there's a nice challenge..Route 66.
Plenty of kicks on Route 66.

Bikers are also known for Remembrance, hence the many we used to see at Wootton Bassett.
There's also the three-nations Allied Memorial Remembrance Ride. That was in July - we had the pleasure to be at Madingley, Cambridge, where there's an American war cemetery, for the UK Ride. There's a report in our next e-newsletter, due out the end of this month - there were over 500 bikes there and they seemed to be coming along the road forever!
The Ride to the Wall is coming up on 1 October. This will be starting from seven different points and will meet at the Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. There's a Riders' branch of the British Legion, and you'll certainly see a bike at memorial events in Dover.

I did not see these bikes in Dover but I did see a big ride through in Benidorm in June, around 300 or more, slowly driving along the seafront, wonderful bikes and great to watch. Perhaps they are on a world tour, lol?

A couple of weeks ago on the A2 was a bright orange caravan being towed by a bright orange motorbike! I wish I had had my camera. This is similar but not quite so striking:

interesting that spain gets a mention as they are the greatest fans of harley davidsons in europe.
the government there is having a crackdown as many imports to not come up to spanish safety standards and dodgy garages are giving the equivalent of m.o.t. certificates.

Gosh what a sight I know bike enthusiasts like PaulB, were in seventh heaven seeing the sight of them heading up jubilee way. Very good program as mention Billy Connelly riding route 66 started this week, and well worth a watch

We had 20 or 30 bikes come down Folkestone Road the day of the accident at Limekiln roundabout. Maybe there is a rally on somewhere?
We are also enjoying Billy Connolly though he has aged a bit since his arctic trip.

Action Now! EU Hands Off Biking This was why so many turned out.
Thanks to everyone who is a 'starter' we now have almost 100 start points ,so should be one near most people... Will be one or 2 more added that are being finalized , A raft of issues emanating from Europe will have a profound effect on riders and the motorcycle industry generally. We must stand up and be heard. Some of these are driven by the EU Commission, like the new Type Approval and Market Surveillance Regulation that will see the introduction of compulsory ABS, the sealing of powertrains from the airbox, through the engine to the final drive (including the diameter and aspect ratio of the rear tyre), restrictions on the aftermarket industry, possible roadside checks by police or other government agencies to inspect emissions, detect owner 'tuning' and more.
There's EU-funded development of electronics to control and govern speeds through warning systems or, ultimately, actual throttle control.
Ireland plans compulsory, full sleeve day-glo jackets for riders and pillions, France is debating compulsory reflective/day-glo clothing. Will UK insurance companies start saying that because we weren't dressed in day-glo it's our own fault that an inattentive driver drove into us? MAG says the onus should not be on the victim.
France also wants to ban bikes over 7 years old from urban areas for environmental reasons! Their congestion is already terrible and putting more riders into cars that pollute terribly when they are stationary, is bonkers.
Bikes are part of the urban transport solution, not problem.
Enough! There will be a vote by the MEP committee discussing the above Regulation in the autumn. We need them to listen. They're meant to represent us. MAG and many others in the motorcycle community are negotiating hard with our own Government and our European representatives, but in the meantime;
Join us to keep EU Hands Off Biking, it's time for Action now!.
