07:2970202Just had this below in from our old forumite friend and former Libdem Candidate Antony Hook. Might be of interest to politicos..

***
Dear Paul,
Chris Huhne MP, the Environment and Energy Secretary in the new government, will be visting our area on Saturday 9 October.
I believe this will be the first visit by a Cabinet Minister to Dover & Deal since the General Election.
The Liberal Democrats are organising a Dinner open to all, at which Chris will be the Guest Speaker, at the Landmark Community Centre and you and any Dover Forum readers are very welcome to come.
It's a bargain £20 for roast beef (or vegetarian option) followed by dessert. Dinner will be at 7pm.
Numbers are strictly restricted so please apply for tickets quickly by emailing
linrob@screaming.net.
Best wishes,
Antony Hook,
Chair, Dover & Deal Liberal Democrats

We found out why in the Sunday papers next day

09:1970231Im not sure...where's the Landmark Community Centre??
Yes Chris Huhne has had something of a turbulent personal year but now finds himself in government so it should or could be interesting. Far better a colourful politician than a grey one I suppose. Although on reflection...is Chris Huhne colourful?

09:4170236Ah yes have just had the info through now from Antony as well.
"It's in the High Street, on the corner of Union Street, near the car park that becomes Deal Market on Saturdays."
So there we are..all clear now.

09:5870239Remember my blog recently, a picture of Charles Hawtry who I said would had might as well have been Chancellor instead of Brown simply because we could have laughed while being driven onto the rocks....
The Landmark Centre used to be Hawtry's watering hole and was where I met him a year or so before his death!!!
This get quite surreal.....
#Fraid I wont be going along - there are limits to 'coalition' I am sure Philip (blog commentator) will go though seeing he thinks a lot of Huhne....

11:1570263Oh tut! tut! BarryW wots this? Are you disillusioned with your Coalition partners already? Is this a split I see across the dinner table.. is not Chris Huhne the bedrock of liberal reform and an anchor man in driving these swingeing cuts forward? thought he would be lapped up like a saucer of sweet milk by the local Tories.

The splits are there for all to see, and it's going to be a long 18 months for this cobbled together government.
Simon Hughes I think will cause a lot of damage to this cobbled together government, watch him hes already firing shots.

15:2270284Under the definition of coalition surely the last administration was one. The union of seperate persons(Blairites Brownites and true Labourites) or parties with a common interest. In their case, the destruction of the economy, national unity, public safety, pensions and removing the need to work of many who had the ability to do so by creating the culture of state dependancy.

15:2870286very little similarity ken, the present coalition is between the most right wing and most left wing of the main parties.
the common interests were not shared until nick and his pals got the whiff of power.
the factions in the last administration were mostly middle of the road groups, the differences were based on traditional and modern party views.

17:1170301Ken, you missed out Communists, Militants and Unionists mate. A right dogs breakfast if you ask me.
Asked to describe the Blair/Brown years from a Brits point of view to an American, I used just three words, "dumb and dumber". The message got home immediately.
Those who hanker for a return to the politics of madness and the economics of 3 year olds clearly have their heads either buried in the sand, or stuck just as firmly up their posteriors.

18 months will soon be here, and you wont find many militants in the labour party any more!!!
KEN;
I fully understand your hurting being rejected, and want to seek revenge on the party that won't have you back.
But move on boyo.
Theres more to life

you will not stop sid using terminology from the seventies and eighties, though he did omit "looney left".
sid
the unionists were always allied with the blues and still usually vote with them.

17:4370320Howard, you know I mean unionists as in Trades Unionists so please, you don't always have be so pedantic. Militants, Trots, Commies etc are all a coalition of the loony left, as almost everyone knows.
As for militants no longer being in the Labour party, (nice that you agree they are still in there Keith) that idiot who is now Shadow Transport Minister is definitely a throwback to those extremist days, and still has the mentality and language to match.

11:0870525Keith I have moved on, its called evolution. Evolution is a the process by where nature leaves behind those that cannot accept change. Hence we lost the dodo and dinosaurs except it would seem in all political parties and trade unions where some still exist. You can still see them this week on the rostrum at the TUC conference roaring loudly to justify their amazing pensionable salaries and perks using the language of the mesozoic age from which they came.

11:1270527Ah yes Ken, but let us not forget the palatial and sumptuous lifestyles of the top union brass. They try very hard to keep their large slice of luxury cake well hidden from the ordinary union members. The working man's merchant bankers it seems.

11:2070531KEN/SID
I have no more time than yourselves for these trade union leaders getting high salaries as I do big business.
But doesn't get us away from the fact of the desperate need for trade unions in general.
Without doubt the working person always suffers when we have these attacks on trade unions, we dont see the same clawing back on big business who are seriously failing and costing you and me millions.
And I know SID you have often been critical of some of them and I accept that.
But KEN i accept change and always have, Im a great believer in clause 4
but it went in a democratic vote, and like MAREK said I did when in the party fight from within.
I decided I wanted my life back after 25 years giving it up for others, that is and was my choice.
So now I can dip in and out of discussions as and when I want
far better
