one was spotted in green lane at around 6.30 am by an employee of n.t. rix scaffolding.
the police and r.s.p.c.a were soon in attendance and the errant bird was taken away.
maybe our members shoud go out in the garden and see if they have lost one?

Aren't some kept in a field at Staple ?
I'm sure we have seen some there.
This reminds me of, years ago, two policemen in a patrol car at 4am in the morning, going through residential area north of the city of Lincoln, and one said to the other: Can you see what I see?
It was a kangaroo hopping along the road in front of their car. With help from other members of the force, the animal was finally cornered in the carpark of the Police HQ,but kept jumping over everyone !!
Dr Morey (I think that was his name) kept kangaroos in his large, high-walled garden, and if you wanted to see them you went upstairs in a double decker which went past the garden. He had them for many years, and wrote a book I think, called the Lincoln kangaroos.

Why was the need to keep the location of where the Ostrich had escaped from secret from the press?

you wouldn't have laughed if you had been the scaffolder jean, he was tall and the ostrich towered over him.

The bird in question has been captured and returned home.
I have yet to see how old the bird is. I already know how old the witness was, and BTW he was a Father of One.

OH this does take me back to the early days of the forum, we used to have quite a problem with an AARDVARK if some of the older members remember.

It has made the Daily Mirror today, complete with photos, they refer to Ostrich being bred in the area for meat?

here is the "mirror" article.
YES, it really is an ostrich strutting proudly through a town street in England.
And it took six police officers, a team from the RSPCA and a sharp-eyed scaffolder to finally catch it.
Driving to work at 6.30am, Wayne McLester "got the fright of his life" when the 6ft bird sprinted past him doing at least 40mph.
Wayne, 21, said yesterday: "It just stopped in front of my van and stared at me.
"I was about to try to catch it when I remembered a wildlife show which said ostriches could kill a lion with a kick, so I stayed in my van."
Instead the scaffolder used his van to carefully herd the bird into a car park in Dover, Kent, then called the police for help.
He went on: "I took a couple of photos and watched six police officers surround the bird looking pretty nervous.
"They waited a good hour trying to contain the ostrich before the RSPCA arrived and took it away."
Exactly where the albino ostrich escaped from remains a mystery, but it could be it made a very sensible bid for freedom - there are breeders in the area supplying ostrich meat for a growing market.

I'm not giving all the details I have because I have written it up for Thursday's paper. It would make the article pointless if I tell everyone all about it before it is printed. The Mirror stuff is a rehash of Adam's report plus a bit added which seems a touch creative.
Say it ain't so - a tabloid making it up? I may need to lie down for a while.
