i thought that the idea was to have a station in market square, i feel certain that was the plan when first mooted.
pretty useless to the town if it goes direct from the seafront to the castle.

not true brian, once an hour and every 2 hours on sundays and bank holidays.
besides the cable car is meant as a tourist attraction not just a method of transport.

Howard I think I remember there was much talk of this being from the seafront not Market Sq. I remember several people pulling my leg, including that Pauli Watkins fella, that it would stop my scantily clad sunbathing on the Gateway roof as all the jolly trippers would be going right over head. I dont do such a thing..tut tut! But it did appear to be the case that the thing was going over and above The Gateway. The people at the Castle are certainly enthusiastic for the concept or were. I was up there one time listening to their keenness.

As far as I recall the idea of the Cable Car was to go from inside the Castle down to De Bradlei Wharf
Been nice knowing you :)

The cable car ,if built, will probably run from the cruise terminal straight through to Canterbury bypassing Dover completely if the council have anything to do with it.

they do look a bit unsettled, maybe someone has spread a rumour that a coach party from wales was planning to visit the castle?

For the first time we saw the sheep at the castle today, they were down behind the fence on Castle hill, they all look well and nice to see them there.

Does this provide an income for the Castle-or is it an efficient method of mowing?
Never give up...

Hopefully they will be moved around to keep the grass down so are cheaper mowers - sadly the ditches don't get cut enough and even where it was cleared earlier in the year it is nearly impassable

Yes Vic thank you for posting this topic as I got quite a shock yesterday doing my usual drive up castle hill and seeing 20 odd sheep staring at me from behind a fence!!! Then I remembered this post....
On another note, my other half was dog walking by the Berliot Memorial the other day and bumped in to two very angry tourists. They had been directed to the White Cliffs experience by Tourist Info in Dover up castle hill. They were fuming that they had been told to go along such a dangerous road without a foot path and refuse to go any further. Why did they not direct them to use the stairs behind the Port I wonder? Whatever your opinion on a Cable Car there is just no easy access for or tourists to the Castle or White Cliffs at the moment without a giant hill to climb or shelling out for a rip off taxi from the Cruise for example.
Keeps politics to myself

lol! Im all for moving the countryside closer!
Helen you are right and so were the tourists about that road up there. Im amazed there hasnt been many a serious accident. The corners are blind. I came around such a blind corner up there a year or so back to be suddenly facing a group of rambling tourists. I was on a manouverable motorbike and I managed not to hit them due to being able to manouver the bike fairly easily, also i was only ambling along which helped. But there they were suddenly around a blind corner, occupying a considerable section of left hand side of the road..leaving the driver nowhere to go.
Bit more speed and in a car and...well...more statistics!

Helen - perhaps they didn't make it clear to the TIC that they were walking ?

Drove past the castle coach park yesterday and saw no less than seven coaches there, so demand during the "quieter" winter months is still there. I think more needs to be done to market the castle as an attraction during the quieter season, e.g. corporate events, etc. Still surprised that one of the national newspapers has not made more of an issue of this as it affects other properties in addition to Dover Castle.

Very little had hit the press on it, althought it did for a short time locally.
