The recent threads/posts on Guston developments - housing, IBC, Fastrack, cemetery and solar farm, reminded me that I once saw mention made of a new (DDC-backed?) railway station. The only reference to it that I can now find is in the
https://www.dover.uk.com/forums/dover-forum/dover-to-folkestone-rail-line thread, where young Haddock's 2016 post at #16 includes "Building a brand new station somewhere near Guston to serve a couple of thousand people living some distance away in Whitfield" and "The mere fact that any of this is supported by DDC should indicate the lunacy of the plans." What happened to this whizzo wheeze - is it dead or sleeping and does anyone have any maps?
(I also recall a fictional book which had a Channel tunnel ending at East Langdon, and a real-life proposed station near Dover Castle (!) in connection with the Goodwins Airport - can't find either of those either.)

It rings a bell with me too and I can't think why but I thought they were looking at the cutting where it comes out of the tunnel near Guston after going under the Dukies, but it might just be my mind playing tricks on me!
I would think that with the multi million investment in Dover Priory and the fact that the residents, of the mostly unbuilt yet, new Whitfield / Richmond Park, can leave their 4x4s at home and jump on a, unbuilt yet, fast track bus route, those plans have been shelved?
Mind you, you never know......

Yes, I remembered that idea too! Something else to add to the collection of mad cap schemes over the years!
More recently- suggestion that the new Fastrack road is to be named Mercury Way……..residents have suggested that White Elephant Way would be more appropriate. Reminded me of Boaty McBoatface! ( apologies if I have misspelled that)

And yet Thanet Parkway (cost £30 million plus) is about to open up in the middle of nowhere! I wonder why? **
https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-routes/kent/thanet-parkway-station/
** Hint. Whilst the station might appear to be in the middle of nowhere it is just down the hill from the unused Manston 'Airport' (700 acres - 2.8 km*2) and were the 'Airport' to be found to be 'financially nonviable' and the land owner to make an absolute fortune by building thousands of 'much needed' houses it would fortuitously be in the ideal location. Do you see what's going on yet?

If I lived at Guston or it’s environs I’d be watching closely the renewed fracking debate, particularly in view of the previous discussions about local investigations. A map published recently shows potential gas deposits in the UK & our area is well highlighted.

That’s a very depressing thought and not something the residents would want to think about……..perhaps a crematorium might be the lesser evil!

Good. (Opens up discussion by load of experts on petroleum/gas exploration and engineering - most of whom would be unable to explain how a flush toilet works)

People thinking that fracking is the panacea to this country's energy dependency problems really haven't done their research. But it will make a lot of dosh for a select few.

The UK imports plenty of fracked gas from the US. You all use it every time you fire up your boiler or scramble eggs. But, 'Net Zero' or something...
As for fracking being a 'panacea', what's Greek for 'straw man'?
And objecting to fracking on the basis that 'it will make a lot of dosh for a select few' rules out pretty much all energy production or supply, including renewables (and many other enterprises besides).

FWIW and at the risk of reading too much into it, Mrs Elphicke asked the following at PMQs on 23rd March: "Will he meet me to discuss specific support for our affected area, including the A2 upgrade for national transport links and an east Kent enterprise zone to cover and include the port of Dover?" Back came the reply "I will make sure that she gets all the meetings she needs to make sure that we continue with all our fantastic investments in Dover, whether transport, education or otherwise."

Translation: "Today I also asked the Prime Minister for further support for our area and he confirmed the Government’s continued commitment to invest and support it. I raised the possible expansion of the Discovery Park Enterprise Zone to include the Port of Dover, as well as for the A2 upgrade to be taken forward at pace."
