I tried to book a future appointment with my GP today and was told by the receptionist, "I can't make any appointments because I don't know what the clinics are yet". I stated that I had no idea what that meant, only to have the same phrase repeated back to me.
Me: "Well, any idea how long it may be 'till I get to see my GP? A couple of weeks? A month?".
Them: "No. I don't know the clinics yet. Try again in the next couple of days".
Me (after checking diary): "Would Tuesday be OK?".
Them: "Try again in the next couple of days".
I presume by "the clinics" they mean appointment spaces or Doctor's shift patterns. Well why don't you know that? I've never come across this before. So then, you can't give me an appointment because you don't know what the clinics are, and you don't know when you are going to know what the clinics are?
Well I can't make it down there again 'till Tuesday and possibly won't be able to get to a phone "in the next couple of days".
Condescending is the word.
I've never not been able to make an appointment with my GP. Even if it's been a month away, I've always been able to get a time and date.
Anyone any idea what may be the issue here? (DM type ranters need not reply).

The word "clinic" came up when I tried to book a flu jab at the normally excellent High Street surgery this week but with regards to getting an appointment I have always got one the same day if I ring in the morning.

You might have had more luck if you had registered under your real name, what is a DM type ranter when it is at home?

Very funny howard (with a small haitch).
Do I really need to explain what "DM type rant" means? I thought that was pretty much part of the common lexicon these days.
I was trying to avoid certain types of posters who will immediately jump to the "it's a population problem" argument at the drop of a hat, when it appears to me to be clearly some kind of administrative oversight.

I thought DMs were a type of boot once fashionable with skinheads. Any connection?

I'm not a twatterer or a faceacher myself, but DM in this context I think is a direct message, and thus probably an ad hominem attack. So your boot link could be right, P. What's more, if the boot's directed at a pseudonym it'll probably have a steel toecap.

Please forgive my ignorance when it comes to initials but I also had no idea what "what a DM type ranter" was.
I automatically thought Daily Mirror or Daily Mail reader, neither rag has been read in this household for a very long time, as for the DM boots I could never understand why those great clomping things were so popular.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

"why those great clomping things were so popular. "
Apart from the fashion trend, they are the most comfortable footwear I have ever worn.

I had a pair of their shoes once, smart enough to wear with a suit and like walking on air. Anyone with back or knee problems would do themselves a favour buy buying a pair, expensive but they last for years.

I can recommend the vegan 8 hole. Great for the back, and I've never failed to emerge safely from a field of cows.
