The system needs changing its a mess. Look at the French Health Service, they can show us how its done properly. Changing the system and being more effective does not equal cut backs, though I am sure there a mass of waste in the system that could be cut out without any damage at all to patient care.

i may be wrong here, but my understanding is that the french health service is not always free at the point of use.
i would have to agree about the waste in the system.
from personal experience, i know that there are people working their wotsits off, totally devoted to patient care, and others in the system that would not be employed anywhere else.

Surely not BarryW
- the French health care system is effectively bankrupt, is rife with waste due to the practice of allowing patients to seek second/third/fourth consultations etc. They also have the highest rate of antibiotic and anti-depressant prescription in Europe if not the world
Oh and French doctors do go on strike mostly whenever the French government talks about health care reform

the waste in the nhs comes down to ceo and the trust boards, the best way to cut costs is to get rid of these ceos and trust boards, reinstate matrons in total control of the hospital and having sisters running the wards being under controll of the matron.all so go back to in house cleaners.

I have had experience of the French health service and it was first class.
At what cost? And don't just restrict that to the invoice tab.

I think Gary hits the nail on the head.
Barryw does get out of his pram and whilst i am a great believer in the Govt and the Labour party which has faults, Barryw tends to be one sided rose tinted glasses, and thats fine, but it doesn';t do much for the every day person
That looks like it won't change, so we to live with it, many people sadly won't post because of it, others are switched off by it.
But i suppose there are some like minded people out there who want to hear it and have summat to hold on to.
Me, i would like more people involved in politics, higher voter turnout, more grown up politicians, a better understanding of each other.
But maybe i'm asking to much
