I notice that the Beeb keep calling it Keersney! Still I suppose it's better than TVS who would always call it Keernsey!
Anyway, whatever, it's good news.

That does sound like good news. Is the money to be spent on activities that have already been decided or is there an intention to ask for public input?

There will be lots of opportunities for the community and local people to get involved in the project, Mark. Today's announcement marks the start of the development phase of the project, and as everyone says, this is a really exciting project.

Quite amazing how many people who supposedly 'work' for DDC spend their days posting on this forum.

As far as I am aware there is only one DDC officer/employee that posts here and his job is mainly promoting the district, therefore all forms of social media are used to that end.

In my opinion both parks are fine as they are. Over £3,000,000 would go a very long way tidying up some of the dreadful eyesores in town.
I very much doubt if the parks add very much to the local economy. I can't really see visitors making special trips there although I may be wrong.

Penny, you're wrong

Many people already do and even more will -
"The most celebrated landscape architect of the Edwardian era, Thomas Hayton Mawson (1861-1933) was renowned for the creation of landscapes that utilised his architectural and horticultural skills and emphasized a strong association between built form and the immediate landscape.
From his offices in Lancaster and Windermere he was a leading practitioner of the emerging profession of Landscape Architecture and he became well known for garden, park and civic space commissions throughout the UK. He is now widely recognized as the leading landscape architect of his time. Although less well known for his works abroad, his international reputation was established from the beginning of the twentieth century by the completion of commissions in America, Canada and Europe including the prestigious garden of the Palace of Peace in The Hague."

But will they go to the town, too,Ray? Because unless there are to be money making enterprises at the park I can't see how the town will benefit.

The funding wasn't for attracting people to shopping centres, it was for restoration and sustainability improvements to heritage features - in this case improving transport links was included in the proposal, as well as fundraising activities, everything you are suggesting.

I hadn't seen this grant as anything more than good news for people that use the parks involved - I don't see any economic benefits but free money spent in Dover has to be good news.

Agreed Howard. The reason such largesse is not heaped upon the town is that the town council is a different political colour from District, County and Westminster. That is wrong. Petty rivalries and personal animosities between DTC and DDC are to blame. Think public bogs and go on from there.
