09:4289247According to statisticians and the bods on Radio FOUR this morning, this monday today Jan 17 is the gloomiest day of the year. People are depressed..christmas is over and we are all left with the huge bills and those horrible financial shortfalls the festive period has caused, on top of that the weather is always gloomy on jan 17 and Spring seems a long long way off. Whats even worse prices are rising on everything from food to heating bills... we can hardly afford to eat and or keep warm! What...you want to do both!!?
Vat soars too and the prices at the petrol pumps are beyond the pale. Even if you get a job you cant afford to drive to it! If you get ill you are in deep trouble as they are cutting chunks out of the Health Service..limiting what it can and will do for us. All is gloom. Im searching the brain for something positive to say but cant find anything.
There are two options here..go back to bed now with a hot water bottle or take what is often called the easy way out and end it all!!
Anyone else feeling depressed.. statistics say that you are.
And Jeezez its monday tooooo!

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

14:5789275Apart from bout`s of fluctuating health condition`s, I don`t get gloomy days. But then I don`t listen to 24 hour news with the `end of the world is nigh` newsreaders, and of course you can keep your newspapers. This forum is my link with all that goes on in the world that might be interesting, apart from which, my monthly mags from intelligent sources keep me informed on what I want to know, backed up with the internet.

15:3189276I don't feel gloomy today despite the rain and grey sky. I am thankful I am starting to feel better after 3 months of feeling awful.

16:4789281Howard we have trains coming in until 01.30/02.00 then the guards start going out again at 04.00,in the mean time I have to check record and work out all the guards takings and commission as they get 5% of takings but not on high speed. Then the cleaning and preparing for the start of the day again. As well as selling tickets giving out infomation and making sure people are safe.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

18:1489293with regard to the original post
it gives me no pleasure to tell people who wont vote tory again to say i told you so, but there you have it .
with regard to gloom, i think its good to look at life that when you wake in the morning your still breathing and have fairly good health

18:2589295correct as you are keith, us humans are a pretty ungrateful lot.
when our health is bad, the only thing we wish for is good health, when we get that we then demand material things.
