looking at an artical on kentonline,it looks like eurotunnel may have purcashed 3 of the 4 seafrance ships due to a court ruling today.
the ships in qustion are as follows.
berloize, rodin and the pas nord de calias.
all so this recreate 100 jobs this side.so in the next few weeks we will find out if another ferry firm will give p&o and dfds/ld lines a bit of compation, this would be intressting if the french courts give it the go ahead,.

Aren't there 3 services already in operation ? DFDS to Dunkirk, DFDS/LD Lines and P. & O. to Calais ? Won't a fourth just make the operators poorer ?

But then you'd have the same scenario repeating itself all over again before too long.
There's competition now, too much competition will kill the golden goose.

If it does not create new business then it will be a blow to DFDS and P&O, wonder what the DHB take on it is?

seems to me that eurotunnel are playing a game of bluff here otherwise the channel would be well over capacity.
here's the link.

Looks like a boost for Dover Port if these three ferries resume operations.
Would also return work to 500 French people and 100 Dovorians.
Surely DHB would also benefit through increased revenues.

i cannot see any benefits for potential staff, where would all the extra trucks, coaches and cars come from to fill the extra space?
it would simply start a price war that would end up with one of the ferry operators going to the wall.
i suspect that eurotunnel are playing a game of brinkmanship as suggested in their comments on the link.

It would seem that Eurotunnel are going to rent them back to the ex workers?
French court approves Eurotunnel takeover of SeaFrance ships
A Paris commercial court Monday approved the purchase by Eurotunnel, the operator of the Channel tunnel between Britain and France, of three ships belonging to bankrupt ferry firm SeaFrance.
The 65 million euro ($82 million) deal will see Eurotunnel rent the ships to a workers' cooperative of ex-SeaFrance employees, SeaFrance SCOP, that will allow the ferries to continue operating and save 560 jobs.
"The court was favourable to the selection of Eurotunnel to take over the assets of SeaFrance," Stephane Gorrias, a court attorney appointed to handle the company's bankruptcy, told AFP.
"This decision seems positive because it allows for operations to continue under the French flag and to create the conditions for significant long-term local employment," he said.
SeaFrance, which employed 880 people in France and 130 in Britain, owned three of the four ships it ran across the Channel before a French court ordered it closed in January amid liquidation proceedings.

I applaud the French on their decision to keep the Sea France ferries in operation.
