Did any members notice yesterdays freak storm at around 6.00pm.It was just for probably a few minutes with a thunderstorm and winds that felt like hurricane force and then it left as quickly as it came.It appears to have caused some damage around town.Noticed a few trees down in Pencester gardens and a few tiles and slates broken in the streets.Talk of various damage around town.Anybody know?

i heard that the trees on the seafront that were already misshapen from recent storms were given another bashing, power was down for a short time in some parts of town.
my nearly full bottles and cans recycling bin was moved from one end of the garden to the other.

Yes, I experienced it Andy, pleased it didn't last long as I went out soon after, but it was strong while it lasted.

Hi Andy, I was in Canterbury Asda at the time. As I came out - not knowing what the weather was doing - there was a blinding flash and a really loud bang of thunder!. There were huge hailstones too - looked like the end of the world!! As we drove away it was still raging until we got to the A2 then it seemed to subside but the sky towards Dover was lit up - looked like it was over the channel. I haven't heard of any damage but there may well have been some.
What is happening to our weather? We don't usually get thunderstorms in January do we? It wasn't mentioned in the local forecast was it.

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

I checked on the met office forecast for Dover yesterday when I heard so many of the football games in the London area were being affected by the storm, there is a rainfall predictor and it showed the storm would hit at 1800 and would be intense but short, got to say they were spot on.

As I was speaking to a member of my family on Skype who lives in Surrey, she lost a few roof tiles when the hail storm hit, I actually heard them sliding off the roof
Luckily no one was injured.

It was surreal. I watched the sign on the traffic island ion the road outside bend over like a tree in a nuclear
blast zone. OK, a tree in a hurricane anyway.

Came through the lanes tonight from Capel to St Radigunds and theres lumps of tree in the road and branches hanging down with some trees looking like they are about to fall down,a real mess. Its almost like a Tornado came through. My son was coming home from work yesterday and had to take cover in the bus shelter. He said the shelter started to sway violently with the wind.He thought it was going to collapse.

They was saying on the radio today that it was a mini Tornado, maybe more than one during that storm.Friend of mine lost the whole roof off quite a large workshop in Capel. There seems to be some damage to roofs in Elms vale area.Noticed in Pencester gardens today that the fallen trees have been cut up and removed. There is a garden which backs onto the river in Pencester which seems to have suffered some serious damage. There are trees down,a badly damaged shed, and the entire length of the garden wall has fallen into the river.
