22:0769871I see that the Market square fountain is down again today. It seems to be more down than up these days. Is it because of the forthcoming" Last night of the Proms" is on the Big screen at the weekend and they wish to deter any misbehaviour? like chucking in detergent and them selves.

22:1669874they never miss a chance to close the fountain alec, the contractors must see it as a good little earner.

22:2569878I know I don't visit the square very often but I have never seen it working it has always been off. I wish they had never got rid of the flowers.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

00:5669884I used to run photography classes at Westmount in the 80s, regularly took our students down to the seafront to photograph the illuminated fountains in front of The Gateway and the pond and waterfall in the gardens near the yacht club, all sadly filled in now.

10:5069928Here is a small shot of the fountain in full operation..no boards no nothing..just flowing in full flight and looking good. A rare sight nowadays. I dont know why the Council are so nervous about it as yes they continually switch it off. Not sure if the new saturday market has much to do with that, but tonights 'Last Night of the Proms' would certainly see it switched off. Pity.

20:1970003 PaulB`s picture above reminded me of this one which I`ve been searching for the last couple of hours. I took this photograph of my eldest daughter early Sunday morning on 21 August 1994. Can someone say when the fountain actually opened?
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

06:3270029I'm always happy to contact DDC about anything, but it's also easy for members of the public to phone as well.
If anyone wants to beat me to it on Monday, you can call 01304 821199 and ask for Property Services - they'll tell you what the problem is (if any) with the fountain.
Looking up Cannon Street there, it certainly looks cleaner than it does now and many of the buildings look in better condition, especially what is now the Best Kebab shop.
Lovely day too, that always helps make places look better.

07:1070040People only have to ask, Keith. I can't be everywhere all the time looking too see if something needs attention, but when I do see or am asked, I attend to it.

10:3270062I do think we should support the councillors who work hard, though, and share some of the gribble such as writing and phoning - just to spread the load a little, and also to demonstrate unity and concern.
