Can anyone help? (sorry if this has been raised on another topic)
I hear Fort Burgoyne is opening up to tours on the Dover Tattoo days. What time will these tours start, where to meet and for how long are they? I am really strapped for time Friday and Sat but don't want to miss this rare opportunity. I asked tourist information but they did not know the answer.

The tours are FREE and allocated on a first come-first served basis, as we haven't got the resources to take advance bookings. We would suggest that to guarantee a place people book as soon as possible after the fun-day starts at 11am

Thank you, I'm even going to try and take a few hours off work so I can be there first thing. After I saw Drop Redoubt (just the outside) a few weeks ago one of the volunteers told me about this. I thought I can't miss a rare opportunity. Will be up the Western Heights for the weekend in July too camera at the ready!

I'm afraid the planned tours of Fort Burgoyne will not be taking place.

What's happened? This is a shock.
What a shame , can you say why ?

One of the conditions of granting my license for the site "the buildings are not in a sound condition and we would not want members of the public in this area."
The person who was responsible for dealing with this did not do anything about it. It wasn't anything to do with anybody on the Dover Tattoo committee.
Tahnk you for that explaination Tony , there will be a lot of disapointed people around , such a shame

As far as I am aware Jon Iveson is dealing with this with the HCA that own the site, and he knows nothing about this.
Talks are still ongoing and as this is a separate part of the site, I am sure all is not over until we can confirm as such.
It has been fully risk assessed and we should be separately insured to do this, and the public won't be accessing building that are considered unsafe, so i am sure something can be done.
Until I hear otherwise I am still treating this as being ON !!

Please let me know before Sat if you can. I'm only coming just to see that as am very pushed for time that day, would have lived to have stayed for the Tattoo as well. Fingers crossed

Paul
Jon was sent an email this afternoon. I received a call from a committee member this evening who you had contacted. I instructed them to give you my phone number if you felt it necessary to contact me.
For your information this is not a separate part of the site, I'd be happy to learn of any risk assessments that have been carried out, and by whom and where they've been sent.
I only mentioned the facts on here once I'd learned of the decision. Having seen the interest from people wishing to partake in the tour I believed it best to say something.

I don't see how Brian - the Tattoo is the major attraction.

Sorry Tony, going to disagree, several of the people who had tickets that I know werent going to see the Tattoo after seeing lots of them, but wanted to go round Fort Burgoyne.
Hope you have a great event
I have rescheduled all of my late Saturday night brides so they dont have to deal with the traffic coming in the way I normally direct them. Lots of them arent local and dont know about the event.

Just to confirm I have today had a site meeting with the HCA and due to communication issues messages have been lost hence the confusion.....
We have been working on the problems this morning and subject to getting the required paperwork to them this afternoon they are happy for the tours to continue as planned
(Now going for a lie down!!!)
