Why is football going on in early July? Surely we can have a rest from it for a while?

Peter , the football season seems to be more or less all year long, sad and crazy isn't it.

Money, it is all about money. Early pre season friendlies are nothing more than a training session with a procession of substitutes, Joe Public paying for the privilege of watching

i think that qualifying rounds for european tournaments start in july too, the scots start their season around then too so that they can have a break in january.

Is that because the players are not in a fit state to play after Hogmanay celebrations.

Like the British winter, "it ends in July, to begin again August."
Didn't the Intertoto Cup start a couple of weeks ago? I know it got going last ear well before the World Cup had finished. A 12.5 month season.
Football on 9th July is an obscenity. And I speak as a dyed in the wool Dover Athletic supporter.

I must agree with posters, i will probably miss the friendlies, but be there when it matters the league/cup games.
strange the bookies make dover favourites, that was even before they had 11 signed on players!! think they will find it as hard as any other season to gain promotion. but heres to a great season starting
in august lol

We left Dover not on the winning side 3.1 to Faversam,Dover did not have one first team player out ,the fans were there about 200 from Dover and were let down by the mangermentof Dover,They should have put some of the new players on show but it was a no to that.

VIC;
You were warned it was a kick around and sizing up his backroom boys
all useful stuff as a manager, but not sio much for the fans

Yes but it is the fans that pay ,and all we wanted to see is a few of the new sighings, Faversam had their first team players out, even if some of Dover first team had come out for only half the match ,but that was not the case.
