took a trip over to folkestone earlier to see how our replacement for the fountain would look.
looks o.k. from a distance but close up just looks like leaks have been reported and the water company can't been bothered to fix them.
i sense paulb's campaign to save our fountain is doomed from the outset.

certainly looks good lit up in the photos, today it was merely spouting about 6 inches.

It certainly does look good when its all alight, nice pix Scotchie, but we must remember that it covers a large area with multiple spouts which won't be the case in Dover and in the height of the summer months it won't be lit up much for tourists and residents to enjoy as its not dark until nigh on 10pm ish.
Can't resist another shot of our glorious Fountain .......... here goes
The feature in Ostend is fantastic much nicer than the one in Folkestone

yes Ostend is fantastic
Properly run seaside costal town, with tourists and a growing local economy
I like the water feature in Toulouse as well , I will google Le Harvre as I have never been there ,
I love the current Dover fountain though it is so pretty and unusual I have never seen another one like it anywhere else

Does anyone have an inkling of what the new feature in Dover will look like?

Re post 1. Gawd noooo..that is truly awful!
Well done with the pictures Howard.
We get that visual in Millers carpark every time in rains, complete with gurgle effect! Talk about run of the mill!
Something like that would not work in Market Sq. It just looks awful to me that thing above. If that's what the council are thinking about..well I just dont know.. why...why??
I'm thinking of Munch's scream right now.
ps; Howard I may need to borrow them pictures from you

Don't think it's going to be like that at all Paul, it's going to be using the base of the existing fountain from what I read, but it would be nice to see an artist's impression if plans are that far advanced.
The Folkestone version would work will in Pencester.

I still prefer the structure of our fountain.

without a doubt roger, the question now is whether the replacement we get is like what i saw yesterday or like the one in scothchies photos.

If the water pressure is powerful enough the jets could go quite high and be very effective, we will have to wait and see.

I'm sure we have water features like the one Howard photographed in Folkestone. There are various parts of Dover where, once it has rained enough, we have something similar. All we need is a leak in one of the pipes underneath as well and we would have a "fountain" to go with it.

Not like Folkestones .Those jets cost approx £7000 each. The old fountain will be covered with a granite or something similiar slab .Jets will come out of it and can be switched off when an event is on.Its a low feature .There are drawings around .+

"The project aimed to deliver a "modern simplistic water feature" that celebrated the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the London 2012 Olympics..."
"Dover Town Council has given £10,000 towards the scheme and work is due to start in October and be completed by the end of the year."
