It does not look at all good for them in Sandwich as people are being evacuated to Sandwich Tech.
I just hope the predicted floods do not happen, if they do some could be in for a very miserable Christmas.

Received this from DDC
Latest update - DDC teams and contractors have been working throughout the evening to prepare for flooding in the district. The DDC contact centre will remain open throughout the night. The rest centre in Sandwich is up and running and is equipped with beds, wash kits, food and drink. Working with Kent Police and KCC, DDC staff have been alerting those in the affected area, (178 properties). We continue to provide information and advice via our website and social media.
There has been a terrific response from communities including many volunteers helping to fill sandbags at Sandwich Quay.
Roger.

Message issued at 00.33:
There are currently 9 people in the Rest Centre in Sandwich. DDC teams and contractors continue to work through the night. Nadeem gave an update on BBC South East earlier tonight, and is giving another update on Radio Kent between 7.30am and 8am in the morning.
Message issued at 02.23:
With peak tides having passed and sea levels falling, the Emergency Centre at Whitfield was stood down at 0230. Whilst there was some localised flooding in Dover, Sandwich and Walmer, there were no major incidents. There was a power outage affecting properties in Dover town. A skeleton team remained in place overnight to liaise with the rest centre in Sandwich.
Similar high tide events are predicted for Friday lunchtime and again on Saturday morning, and the Emergency Response Team will be meeting tomorrow morning to review arrangements for this period.

It is encouraging that DDC are `now` listening to flood warnings.
DDC and you Roger ( on two committees) ignored the flood warnings ( for three years) given `not` to build
our Hospital on a flood plain.

That
flood risk was about rainwater coming down the river, last night's was about a tidal surge coming up rivers, different causes and different response strategies need.

It still remains a ``Flood Warning``

Credit, where credit is due today.
Dover District Council have done a great job over the last 24 hours in trying to mitigate any damage caused by storm surge flooding - both by warning and by preventative action.
As usual there are some degenerators, but fortunately they are the minority who like to to moan and whinge at anything, for any reason. You know who you are...

Just got to work in Sandwich Industrial Estate.
The estate's nearly surrounded by water and there's still quite a lot of surface water around Minters Removals & AEI Compounds.Have been told that the banks were within a couple of inches of overflowing. This lunchtime's high tide should be interesting, good job I work on the 1st floor.
I suspect that whilst the Environment Agency is saving the town centre, any excess water will be diverted this way.

Well put Paul, DDC and the media have done a good job keeping us informed.
Having seen a picture on Facebook this morning a warning about the underpass might be in order unless it has now drained, it might be unusable unless you can swim underwater.

I can still do a length of Dover pool underwater - how long is the underpass
The girls and I had some fun last night helping out filling sand bags, lots of people getting stuck in and all very sociable. Mind you, a bit achy this morning

Have to feel for Jim at Cullins Yard - the workmen are in there presently trying to clear up, as Wellington Dock overflows for a second time...
