Re #287: "Ed, why do we need bunkering barges from across the Channel , why can't they be fueled from UK or is it fuel taxes?"

Paul, as I understand it there are no fuel taxes for ships engaged in international voyages, which includes ferries running to France. Our Chief Engineer signs a Customs declaration each time we have taken bunkers.

Where the bunker barges come from presumably depends on the fuel supplier. In DFDS case, the ships bunker in Dunkerque and I think Total supply the fuel. Believe the bunker barges go off to Rotterdam to replenish their tanks once they have topped up several ships, Rotterdam being the biggest and therefore cheapest fuel source.
