There shouldn't be "sad" market stalls, although the weather yesterday would have made anyone sad.
I have written a paper on how to have a successful street market in Dover and sent it to the Mary Portas (Dover) Town Team some time ago. I have also put forward the name of some one who has seven years experience of running a successful market and a market stall and knows what to do to make it work.
I have also written to DDC advising them that Dover Chamber of Commerce no longer want or have any interest in the market - and still nothing moves.
Your point about the fountain is a very valid and important one Howard. The fountan is a feature of the Market Square and no amount of spurting water will make up for it.
I understand that the spouts and pipework are expensive to replace and it makes life awkward if events are in the market square, so when some one buggers it up in any way, that's the end of it.
My personal view is that it should stay and if necessary, have funding in place to repair or refurbish it, if and when necessary. Where that funding should come from, I have no idea - perhaps the People's Port or DHB's Community Chest ?
The bus was going to the Transport Museum's Military week-end - from the Market Square and on the hour, starting at 11.00 till 4pm.
