I went out just after mid-night and there were quite a few fireworks going off - seemed to be all directions too. I love fireworks so stayed our for a while to watch them.
The online daily-mail had some fantastic photos of the New-Year celebrations from around the World - I've never seen such brilliant photos, well done DM and a 12 minute video of Sidney's - just so fantastic, better even than ours (UK's) by a long way.

Yes Sydney make a big splash every year, presumably because they are first to celebrate being 8 or 10 hours ahead of us or whatever it is. The celebrations then move across the globe until they arrive here. The London ones were superb but probably way toooo expensive for these hard times..they went on for an age.
Here in Dover there was a group of people on the beach letting some off which was nice, and there were several other displays around town. But..did my eyes deceive me...fireworks let off from the top of Burlington House!! I would need that confirmed, I saw it but I dont beleive it!
I was very concerned that they might burn the place down !!
The ships dont sound their hooters any more..ah shame that.

I also love fireworks and there were a lot of them
but my boy was telling me some irresponsible people were letting them off in the roads/on top of cars etc.
that's how accidents happen.
i tried to let off one of those chinese??? lanterns
but it didn't work(fly)any advice on them?

when i was a kid all the ships in the royal docks sounded their hooters at the stroke of midnight, pity the tradition seems to have stopped.

I don't think I have ever seen fireworks like the ones in London this year:

Yes have to say the London fireworks were very impressive but at what cost, compared to Paris we seem to have gone over board,But standing at the window here in Dover as said a few let off on the beach and others around, but Burlington house sure did look as though they did a small display from the roof top.

Howard - When we lived in Castle Street (about 35 years ago) the French sounded off at 11 followed by the Brits at 12.

lol!
But yes indeed I miss the ships hooting, there must have been some kind of maritime ruling against it, maybe it was stressing some people out...but one can always make do with TV..here is the London display as seen on TV with one eye on the Olympics. Government policy to flag up the Olympics like mad no matter what the cost.
