The following text is from a brief research I did on the internet, which took a complete 30 seconds! It is a copy and paste paragraph but, having the sources quoted and being relatively short, it should not infringe copyrights.
The author is Martin Hvidt of Oderne University, Denmark, and the text was last updated in 2000.
It proves that Egypt does have the need to access more water for its growing population.
This thread is in reference to my post on Howard's thread about Egypt.

    Text:
    "Introduction
Water resources in Egypt are becoming scarce. Surface-water resources originating from the Nile are now fully exploited, while groundwater sources are being brought into full production. Egypt is facing increasing water needs, demanded by a rapidly growing population, by increased urbanisation, by higher standards of living and by an agricultural policy which emphasises expanded production in order to feed the growing population. The population is currently increasing by more than one million people a year. With a population of approximately 55 million in 1994, Egypt is expected to see an increase to some 63 million by the year 2000, and 86 million by 2025." ENDS

My statements about agricultural policies and irrigation in many countries with an increaing population can be proved right through research. I wanted to make this point, that I cannot accept that my statements here have been wrong, when I can prove that they are not.
