Dumping Sewage in the Ocean.

Have you been to the beach lately? Remember the great feeling of dunking your face beneath the waves? What about when you think about the 21,000 pounds of untreated sewage that the average cruise ship dumps every day, sometimes less than three miles from shore? »
Even if you don't live near a coast, the cumulative pollution from cruise ships affects us all.
Tell cruise ships that it's time to clean up their act. »
Every single day, a single ship dumps one ton of garbage, 6,400 gallons of oily bilge water, and 25 pounds of batteries, fluorescent lights, medical wastes, and expired chemicals into our oceans. And that's just one ship. »
The Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) recently singled out AIDA and TUI, two German cruise lines, for being especially environmentally filthy. It's time for them to update their filtration systems to stop spewing waste into our oceans.
Tell AIDA and TUI to help pave the way to make cruise lines better for our oceans. »

The AIDA Ships come here to Dover, are making regular sailings from the Port of Dover and are doing so next year ( or I mean this year 2012!) too...

but the daily ferries must need emptying too but one prefers not to think about all that too deeply. Presumably there is a method for extracting same as I would imagine its not all dumped into the sea...I think it was Diana who mentioned previously that those smaller ships floating around the harbour with the long nozzles sticking out do the emptying but I dont know for sure.

I think ED will have told me earlier what this little ship is for but head and sieve nowadays. Both ships in shot were in action today as you can see, the Spirit of Britain now back on serious duty after her layoff.

which were used to re fuel P & O and Seafrance. They are called the CLIPPER BRUNELLO
and Coral Water.

- 7 January 2012 10:08146015Thanks for that info Vince. Yes I think the small ship photographed there is the Coral Water. Was trying to see its name yesterday through binoculars yesterday and I thought it said the Coral Writer but I knew that sounded odd.

This notice popped unsolicited into view this morning up at the marina. Took a pic of it and the bridge over...all looks clean and free flowing. Very grey morning.
