at the moment there are 4 youngsters aged about 10 - 12 that appear to be brahms and lizst across the road from me.
they are making an almighty racket after taking turns drinking from a lemonade bottle.
i wonder what their parents think they are doing and what action will they take when they arrive home in such a state.
Howard, as a parent of 4, one now in her 20s and the others in their teens, I can tell you that however well brought up they are they will transgress. Having said that, if mine had done that at 10-12 I would have removed their livers until they were old enough to use them properly.

Having been down the road of drink, which cost me my first family and my own home at the bay,I am very anti -drinking at that time I was in my 20s I let them down and myself.this drink that the young ones can get hold off must be by law stoped.
Also the parents should be taken to court.
What would you be hoping to achieve with that, Vic? And what would be the charge?

Supplying underage drinkers with alcohol. And child neglect. Both culpable offences. Yes I used to sneak out to the pub when I was underage. So what?

Peter that is how we all started, I do not know what you mean by saying "So what," how can you say that when we see even at the age of 4years they are taken to Hospital for over drinking.
I am finding very hard to understand your thinking over this one.
I agree there are problems with alcohol and kids, and it is one we need to address. But I am not sure if tarring all miscreants with the same offence is helpful. We have all done some stupid stuff without it being either criminal or life-breaking. Supplying kids with booze or fags is unacceptable; having one of your kids go off the rails for a while is something we can't always help or stop and might even be a rite of passage that is needed - if we are there for them and take responsibility where necessary what more can we do? That isn't the same as parents who don't care or who actually supply the stuff. Me taking an illicit sip of my Dads whiskey when I was 13 is not quite in the same league as 10 year olds ending up in A&E every weekend............

My point Vic is that kids will be kids. We all did it and it did most of us no harm, but there are those whose parents don't care or notice what their little darlings are getting up to.

I have been there Peter,we do not live in the same way as we did years ago.then you Dad could hit you if you was found out, they have no power of them any more, some beers are that much stronger.
i do not think that you should drink till you are 21years old, pubs must go back to 23oohrs then close to the Gen /Public but still have a few that use it can stay till later behind close doors.Fuel outlets, food outlets should not sell it.

Well said Peter, I remember my father taking me into a friend's pub when I was underage. My first legitimate drink was a Babycham with two cherries.

I do hope your going to tell me that you never drank one Peter.
I would never be able to look you in the eyes again.

Vic says you should not drink until you are 21. Hopefully I can drink until I am 100.

Been there, got the t-shirt as they say, I had to leave a very promising career behind me because of the demon drink. We are all different and fate has a way of dealing our life cards for us, it is then up to the individual as to how he/she deals with it.
Vic, you might not have even met your good wife, if it were not for your drink problem. I am sure you will regard that as something good coming from some bad?
