At the Dover District Neighbourhood Forum held on 13th October there were 15 groups pitching for £23,563 in grants, unfortunately there was only £16,141 available for distribution.
After some interesting demonstrations and presentations the vote was held with the upshot that 4 groups including LRCF appeared to be unsuccessful in our applications (and WHPS, as you have read above, getting less than they asked for); however Gordan Cowan then took the mic to announce that he had been so impressed by all the pitches and the dedication and enthusiasm shown that he didnt want to see any one denied and as he had budget spare he would make up the £7,422 shortfall.
So whilst it ended up a satisfactory evening as we ultimately got what we were seeking and had the opportunity to network with other groups, one was left with the feeling that a degree of politics had been played and we had had our time wasted to a greater or lesser extent depending on your point of view. The process of pitching and voting is unsatisfactory as we are all making a significant contribution to our community and the councillors need to rethink this and look to a more inclusive and co-operative process even if it ultimately means we all ended up with 30% less than we had pitched for - after all it is easier to raise £30 than £100.

seems to me that if everyone put on a good presentation the cash pot should be spread pro rata which is what ross seems to be saying, unless i have misread the post.
it would have been wrong if one or two organisations walked away with nothing when others got their full wack.

Ross is right. I think it was made to look like Gordon was the good guy making up the shortfall with his fund whereas Nigel had already allocated his money some time ago so was actually doing a better job?
I think it would have been better if everyone that was seen as worthwhile projects then the available money could have just be shared our pro rata and got about 2/3 of what they were after..

Not sure I can really comment, but I believe 'politics' is getting in the way of groups receiving their promised funding.
Anyone know anything??

I was told that it had to go before a "committee" to approve it.

Think that committee meeting has passed and there is a dispute over the way in which the 'top up' was made....

It now has to go to KCC Cabinet for ratification
The politics of course is that Gordon's gesture calls the whole process into doubt - I am grateful of course - but it does question how we can do it next year

Sounds like the death knell to me, a convenient disposal perhaps.

Just a quick update on this. I spoke to Emma Carey at KCC on Thursday. She said that all the grants had been approved. She had the first group of "offers" on her desk that were being posted this week. Once the recipients had signed and returned the form the cheques would be issued. She said that she thought the Tattoo request would be in the second lot next week.
I have no idea about the other requests.

Thanks, I had heard that it was all agreed and letters would be out after xmas, taken quite a while though seeing as the 'vote' was over three months ago now....

Paul, the protocol means that both DDC & KCC Cabinet sign off is necessary prior to the money distribution process being completed.
