I still have an open mind on the drilling and would hate Guston to become another Balcombe with all those professional troublemakers who have the audacity to call themselves protesters.

Very true Peter so long as they used the place rather than brewing their own

and were good spenders and if they didn't drive the regular customers away for ever.

What the 'Frack' is going on?
Is this proposal not more in line with what GaryC explained earlier, the extraction of Methane from old coal-pit workings?

only found out about this by chance, there is nothing on the guston parish council website and they appear to be uncontactable.
very short notice but hopefully people living near the areas likely to be affected will get along and share their knowledge on the subject.

Lots of opinions on this Forum from Members expounding their views and fears of drilling and Fracking. I am posting a link to the Lewes forum, which is quite local to Balcombe, with many similar comments being posted.
The Balcombe situation has been ongoing for sometime now, so it may be interesting reading to look back a bit on past postings.

I wonder how many of those living in this area actually have any in depth knowledge of the subject or will they just quote what they have read in various publications.

i would imagine that a lot of hot air is being expounded at tonight's meeting, the meeting has been hastily convened and not many would have had the chance to read up on things other than media reports.
that's assuming many turned up.

Just returned from the Urgent Parish Meeting, very well attended wouldn't be surprised if there were at least 100 people attended, standing room only at the back.
Congratulations to the Guston Parish Council in convening this meeting at such short notice. Interesting panel of speakers including Oliver the geologist from Coastal Oil & Gas, two Balcombe Parish Councillors and the guston parish Councillors.
Very informative.
Coastal Oil & Gas have four drilling applications, one of which is approved (Woodnesborough near Sandwich). Mainly it seemed like the majority of people at the meeting felt the Guston site was too close to the residential area of the village and that the infrastructure wouldn't cope with the influx of big trucks. We were told the drill would emit an 80db noise. One of the Balcombe representatives said their drill could be heard at night. The Guston drill will be functional 24hrs a day 7 days a week.
Lots of other useful information, and given the emotive nation of this subject the meeting didn't seem to get lost in angry rants, unfortunately due to other commitments I had to leave at 9:30pm but I think the meeting planned to hold a vote for and against.
I'll be interested to read the minutes to find out what time the meeting closed.
